Long range gun question
« on: December 11, 2012, 06:26:50 AM »
Thinking of a project base on my TC renegade to put together a long range barrel for it. Track of the Wolf has replacment breeches for the TC's was thinking of getting a 45 (.458) barrel blank with a 1:18 twist and putting it together. Wont be a right away thing have some other projects I have to finish up first but wanted to see if any one else has done something similar.

Am I nuts or should I go for it?

Idahoron knows all about those.

It  works great in the Renegade, thanks to the 1 inch across the flats barrels. They are plenty strong if you breech them up properly and make sure you have a good seal on the end of the threads. It will eat nipples pretty fast, platinum lined ones are good if you can find them.

I noticed yesterday that Green Mountain has stainless drop-in long range hunter barrels in 45 cal. available during their 12 days of Christmas sale. The only thing is the twist is 1:30 so it's not going to shoot a bullet heavier than about 350 grains. Just a heads-up.
