elk 300, I don't know anyone that uses a ballistic plex  most just click their scopes. Also the burris is not a popular scope for silhouette the leupold is the most popular followed by the weaver.

You could do that, but it takes enough concentration to keep the crosshairs on the targets. If you had to switch to another dot or hashmark, your sight picture is changing each time and you have to remember which one to use. As for Burris scopes, they seldom track accurately enough to be useful in highpower silo. Leupold, Weaver, or Sightron  with target knobs are the way to go. BTW, I tried out some of the new Leupold silo scopes recently. They were OK, but I like my Weaver T24s better, and they're a lot less expensive. Anybody else have opinions on them?

I got tired of the same old expensive choices and picked up a Burris 4.5 x 14, sent it to the factory for target turrets and will see what I got on small bore hunter pistol.

chucky52 the 4.5x14  - is that one of the new Burris Timberline models?
I ask because I was interested in opinions from anyone who may have purchased.
I was considering mounting the Burris Timberline 4.5-14x32 with Ballistic plex on my Rem mod seven.

That's what I got after a lot of research. Sent it directly to the factory for target turrets; but, haven't used it yet. I have high hopes, we'll see.

Before you sent it off did you have an opportunity to look through the glass under varying conditions
Were you able to look through it around dusk? - if so please provide your analysis.
Opticsplanet has them on sale for 199.00 with free shipping.  I don't want to miss a sale if you provide a positive recommendation.
No one has any here locally and I have been hesitant to buy sight unseen.

I talked with Customer Service quite a bit. I looked in the store more than once. Academy Sports every day price is $199. Are you going to use it for hunting? I have mounted mine on a Thompson Contender which I shoot NRA silhouettes after 9:00 AM. I will try and check tomorrow evening and let you know; but, I assure you my take on the optics is good, lifetime warranty and as clear as the Leupold's I have(2). My concern for hunting would be the 32mm objective which I considered. With a non moving silhouette, I don't see a problem. I have a Leupold 2x7 about the same size and it works. I have two Leupolds, both good; but,I am just not willing to pay what they sell for. Therefore, I did the research, paid my money and if there is a problem it goes back to Burris to fix under the lifetime warranty.

I would suggest you call customer service, it's worth the effort. I'll let you know tomorrow and good luck.

For hunting I have
Weaver steel bases,
Weaver lever-lok Rings,
Bushnell 3200 2-7x32 scope mounted on my remmy model seven, 7mm-08.

I was thinking of getting another set of lever-lok rings for the timberline 4.5-14x32 and use the scopes interchangeably
I shoot with a bunch of guys off season on weekends punching paper 100-500 yards just for healthy competition.
The rule is you must use your hunting rifles (no target rifles)

I thought it would be nice to just have to swap scopes, between my Bushnell and possibly the timberline which is in my price range.
But I have not handled one in person.

This would allow me to use the mod seven on weekends and I could leave my 30-06 at home.

I'm encouraged with what I've seen. The objective size is ok for targets and it was designed for hunting; but, the fov seems a little small. I look thru it at dusk this evening. It would be worth your while to talk to customer service, that's who pulled me over. In daylight the optics are as good as Leupold. Also, you can check the Chuckhawk's websight. He has a positive article on Burris.

Scootrd, Sorry I lost the thread and wanted to get back to you. I checked the Timberline 4.5x14 at dusk and I'm gonna say it's bright. Small but bright. For silhouettes or a target, 32 mm is ok; but I am surprised that Burris sells this for a hunting scope.

Thanks for the return response  -
2 more quick questions  -
what was the additional cost for target turret upgrade
if you could guesstimate  -  the scope is clear for punching paper out to approximately how many yards?

I just got back from a Hunter pistol silhouette shoot so here's my latest evaluation: I mounted it on a Contender with a 10" 22 LR. While shooting I felt like I was working harder than normal due to the 32 mm objective. The reticle is hard to see  and the ballistic hold over marks are ridiculously hard to see. I bought a sunshade to avoid smoking the front lens with powder residue and I am highly disappointed that it doesn't fit at all. The lens is clear and bright and the adjustable objective is marked for 100, 200, 400 and infinity. We shoot @ 100 meters. I shot the next match which was pistol caliber with a Leupold and it is light years better, beyond comparison. I really wouldn't have known all of the above before I took the Timberline to a match. All looked good in the store. Good Luck.

wow Chucky52, can't say I'm not disappointed, was hoping for a better Timberline review.. the scope was priced right at what I can afford at the moment. And the scopes eye relief seemed like a plus.

By the way what was the additional cost for adding the target Turrets?

Given your mixed review I will probably work a few weeks overtime and scrape up the extra cash for the Weaver 4-16x42mm AO.
I'm not sure if the grand slam lever-lok medium rings will handle the 42mm objective Bell. Will have to ask, and the extra 3 inches
in Weaver scope length (and possible higher profile) is gonna look aesthetically like crap on the small mod seven.

On the plus side , the Weaver comes with semi target turrets already. Guess everything is a trade off!!!!

The turrets cost $80 and I can't yet speak to the repeatability of adjustment; but, as they say "lifetime warranty." I think this one will already be heading back. I had hoped to provide a better report. I am disappointed. I Have a Simmons 44 Mag I bought on clearance to use for load development on my peep sighted silhouette guns. I don't think it will last but I don't feel overworked looking thru it. I can't speak to the Weaver except a fellow shooter had to return one to the factory and they fixed it. About a year later he returned a Leupold and they replaced it with a new one.

Since the Timberline was a mixed review. I did a little more research.
I have an Elite 2-7x32 now which I am very happy with as my hunting scope.
This is an alternative to the weaver I found for a potential punching paper scope .
I am going to post a new topic and see if other can provide additional input regarding
these two scopes.

It'd be interesting to see what others think about the Timberline. I saved a little money; but, now I'm stuck with disappointment.
