Rare as Rocking horse poop. I need some too. Should have stuck with a 243..... the 257 Roy minus the steroids and high prices.

When I was google searching for best prices on .223 brass I ran across a site that listed ALL the various Weatherby magnum rounds in once fired brass. It said they were seasonally available. If you'll do a google search for used .257 Whby brass perhaps you'll run across the site. I apparently didn't book mark it.

Generally speaking tho used Weatherby brass just is not available period. It is offered only by Weatherby and no one else. I picked up a box of it new from Midsouth recently for mine and delivered it was close to $40. I think ran across the two boxes I had bought when I had my Vanguard with 17 loaded rounds and three fired rounds in each box. Add to that the box of factory ammo tossed in when I bought mine and I have 80 rounds of brass a life time supply no more than I'll use mine.

You're not going to find any reliable sources of used brass. I know the new stuff is higher than average brass, but it's also higher than average quality brass. Norma brass is much better quality than Win, Rem, or Fed brass. It's worth it. As long as you do your part as the handloader, the brass will last many firings. When I bought my 257 wby, I just sucked it up and bought 100 pcs of new factory brass with it when I bought the dies. Sure it stings a little, but not counting the odd lost piece of brass in the field, I'll be passing that brass along to my son with the rifle and dies when I'm too old to hunt anymore.

You and your buddy should just split an order of brass and be done with it. (I know, it's easy for me to say, but for the record, I'm a blue collar wage slave with a wife and 2 kids to support, so I'm not rolling in money).

You could use 7 Rem Mag brass sized in your 257 Wby die, but I've never done it, and I'm NOT recommending it.

Interesting link. Never heard of them before. Some prices aren't bad. Curiously enough their price on 257 wby brass is higher than Midsouth's.

I guess you have to shop around...

It is impossible to find used - even new 257 WM brass is hard to find with many vendors are out of stock - my advice is to buy it when you see it or buy a couple boxes of the $49.00 Weatherby 100 fr. ammo from MIDSOUth - http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/department.asp?dept=%41%4D%4D%55%4E%49%54%49%4F%4E&dept2=%43%45%4E%54%45%52%46%49%52%45%20%52%49%46%4C%45&dept3=%32%35%37%20%57%45%41%54%48%45%52%42%59%20%4D%41%47&dept4=%42%49%47%20%47%41%4D%45

I just started making 257 Weatherby brass out of 7mm Rem mag brass.

I run the 7mm  in a 257 resizing die to reduce the neck. THEN anneal the shoulder, relube the case. run it in the sizing die agian to form the shoulder. (it will have lube dents in it, but they come out when first fired. )  then load with a mid range load. shoot it to form the case to final shape. Load as if it were a 257 case.

I haven't noticed ANY difference in acc. or velosity (checked by a cronagraph)

I tumble them in wallnut hulls to remove the heat stain.

No problem with 7 Rem mag. and 264 mag is even easier.  I don't anneal with either one.

I make 257 Weatherby Magnum brass from 300 H&H brass.

I use the forming die, then trim to length, then full length size then turn the neck down.  This process leaves zero dents even before fire forming and is the proper length.

I load Hornady 100 to 117 grain bullets for excellent fire forming, target practice and deer loads.

After fire forming I use Nosler 120 grain Partitions.

Be careful using shorter brass after a while it may form a ring and if you then if you use the proper length brass it may flow into this ring and stick the brass in the chamber.  The short 7mm Remington brass is around .060" too short.

the Blue Star brass and bullet place is abt. 40 miles from me and he attends most of the Little Rock shows, we used to do a lot of Buying from them but since the increase in prices overall around the country they have gotten HIGHER then most, so we have quit buying from them.   Jim

Make it out of .264 brass.  Just run it thru the sizing die, load a full power cartridge, shoot it, resize it, trim it and you're done.  Cheaper than buying Weatherby brass and works great.

Yes, it’s the 264 Winchester Magnum brass is the same length as 7mm Remington Magnum brass, about 0.060" too short from the 257 Weatherby Magnum brass.  If you use this brass you will over time cut a groove at the case mouth it can and will hinder real 257 Weatherby Magnum brass from being chambered or ejected after firing.

Or the person that doesn’t reload and buys it after using the shorter brass can and will find these problems as well.

I have been finding some brass at gun shows. The high price of the rounds has made a lot of people go to other calibers. One guy gave me two boxes of Weatherby new unprimed brass for $5.00 a box. Another had three boxes of what he said was once fired brass for $20.00. So I have enough to keep me busy for a while.
Perception is everything. For instance, a crowded elevator smells different to a midget.
