New to me 200 stevens

My dad just gave me a stevens 200 7mm-08 in a boyds thumb hole
left hand right bolt stock with a pentax 4x12x40 game seeker scope
never fired he and i are leftys but he still likes his 257 roberts so he never
shot the 200 after he put it together.

so is it a shooter or just a keepsake.

by the way i have the factory stock if some one needs it.

  Hunterted  I have a relative and a friend that own 200's (7mag. and .308 respectively) and those rifles Will shoot! The 7mag has never been shot "for group" but at 200 yds. it has proven itself "minute of elk". The .308,on the other hand,has been shot for group size and it is a tack-driver. I don't consider them particulary attractive but like women maybe the homeliest are the easiest to live with!  Kix

I have a 200 in 25-06 with 5 different loads worked up ranging from 75gr to 120gr and they all shoot sub moa off the bench at 100yrds. When I bought mine I could still get a 200 my choice of caliber for $200, I kind a wish I bought a couple more now. I've seen first hand the 270's and 7mm-08's shoot moa or sub moa. For the money they can't be beat even with the ugly stock, maybe the new camo stocks will make them a little more attractive.

I have 3 200's. One is a 308. The other two are re-barreled and re-chambered to 250/3000 and 257Roberts. All three are excellent shooters. Since you already have a stock change the only recommendation that I can make for improvement is a trigger from SharpShooter Supply. The 7mm/08 has great potential for accuracy. I hope you enjoy your Stevens as much as I enjoy mine.
