Patriot Guard Riders
« on: May 02, 2009, 03:31:00 PM »
I was approached at a local walmart by a local ride captain of the Patriot guard Riders.  He asked if I would be interested in joining.  I got a business card and checked out the website.  I would love to join to do my part for fallen soldiers and their families.  Anyone here have any experience with the organization?  I would like thar positives and or negatives before I commit.  Thanks

Never heard of them although looking quickly at their website, it appears to be a worthy and honest organization.

My friends and I were riding in the Duluth/Superior area last year and met one of these guys. His stories were both impressive and chilling. He is a Vietnam Vet himself and was very dedicated to the cause. He and his group would attend the funerals of fallen soldiers to protect the families and friends in the funeral procession from anti-homosexual extremists. These extremists would shout and carry signs saying God killed the soldiers in retribution for the sin of homosexuality.  The Patriot Guard Riders would surround the protesters while carrying American flags and singing God Bless America at the top of their lungs. I asked him how he could keep his composer and not snap into a violent rage. He said they are completely nonviolent.

Haqd a reply written and lost it.   Probably a good thing... ::)  This is an abreviated version.   ;)

They've been around a few years.  Started in response to a religious sect that was protesting servicemen's funerals.  No contact was allowed since the sect used any excuse to file lawsuits.  As I remember that sect got slapped down by the courts pretty good and you don't hear much about them now.  I'm sure they are still out there, probably still protesting in some manner.  However, this is pretty much old news.  Was all over the tv for a while but is now forgotton...

The PG does a pretty good job at keeping abreast of military funerals, etc. and getting out the word.  It seems they have broadened their objectives.

I happen to live in the town where this "religous sect" lives and operates. They are horrible people. The Patriot Guard is just what everybody else has said that it is. They protect the grieving family and friends of a fallen soldier from having to deal with this group of people. I personally know quite a few people who have gone one PG missions and runs, and there are the nicest people you will probably ever meet. I would have no reservation about joining up with them.

PG is active in Oklahoma against that so called church group from Kansas that  shows up to protest the fallen soldiers burials. They are from all different types of people with a goal of protecting these soldiers and thier families right to a uninterupted funeral. I would join them and plan to in the future.
