Newbie Barrel Question? (super?)

I just picked up a used contender with a few barrels but have been looking at various other barrels I would like. I'm all ready hooked and I haven't even shot the thing yet. 

Anyway my question is what is a super 14 barrel?

Are all 14" barrel just referred to as Super 14's or does the "super" part elude to something else?

I believe the super refers to the bull or heavy barrel, at least all the ones I've bought that said super were bull barrels.

T/C made two 14" Contender barrels.  The Super 14 or S-14 is a straight bull 14" barrel.  The other was a 14 Hunter barrel which was a straight bull barrel with a brake(total length was 14").  The S-14 is much more common.

If you look on the barrel it says 223 super 14 or what ever cal. it might be at least all mine do but as stated they are bull barrel type.

I have a few "super 14" barrels that are a full bull barrel measuring .808 at the muzzle. My "super 16" 223 barrel is a tapered sporter that measures .618 at the muzzle. My "super 16" 45-70 barrel with factory muzzle tamer brake has a full bull profile measuring .808 right before the muzzle tamer.

Thanks for the replies.......so in a nut shell the "super" part is just a marketing ploy from the sounds of it, either way I want one   

I did get to shoot my contender yesterday for the first time and all I can say is "what a fun gun". My only regret is that I waited so long to buy one, who knew a single shot could be this much fun to shoot. I popped of a box of .223's and was pretty amazed at how accurate even a 10" barrel is. I also tried a few .410 shot shells to for the hell of it but didn't find it as much fun as the .223 

As a side note why are .410 shells almost double the cost of 12 gauge? there like computer parts... the smaller they are the more they cost

Now that you put it that way the price makes sense I suppose, I guess the only option is to load your own. I have one of those plastic Lee Load All's I use for 12 gauge but I did a quick search and it doesn't look like they make a .410 version. Looking at how simple it is though I bet I could turn up a few simple hand tools that I could use to bang out (no pun intended  ) I few of my own .410 shells.

according to a Remington rep I talked to out of the Lonoke,Ark. plant ,the .410's keep the machinery all tied up.  Always jamming and such.  Said the workers spend much of their production run time trying to keep things running smoothly.

I am also new to Contender shooting and I have been rabbit hunting with my 14" 410 barrel and it is a lot of fun. The Contender is easy to carry and hitting running rabbits is very challenging but I am having some success.

To add a little bit to what you have already been informed. I reload all my own shotshells as well as the metalics. The 410 is the most difficult to reload for. I can reload several boxes of 12 ga. in the same amount of time it takes to load 1 box of 410. I know it depends on the reloader you have set up for it, but it just more time consuming IMHO. The good thing about reloading the 410. A pound of powder and a bag of shot will last a long, long time.
