Big Boy Opinion 357mag. or 44mag.
« on: January 21, 2009, 06:58:57 PM »
Hi, this is my first post from the far side of Oregon and I just bought a Golden Boy in 22lr. I will shoot it this weekend and this is a very pretty gun to look at and I'm sure it will attract some attention from the range. Anyway, I'm already thinking about getting a Big Boy and I already reload in 357mag. and 44mag. for my revolvers. So are there advantges in one caliber over the over aside from cost of ammo? I don't hunt and this will be for plinking/range shooting at 50yd. or 100yd. Any help appreciated.

Welcome Action,

I own a Big Boy in .44 mag and a friend of mine has a .357 in the same model. Personaly, I see very little diffence in accuracy. If you were to hunt with it you might be checking your ballistics. Being your using this rifle to plink you may want to consider the .44 only because you will have an option to shoot .44 mag. or .44 specials or even spacific cowboy rounds. Just something to think about. Which ever one you buy, you won't be sorry.

The Henry is so heavy that if I were going to get one, it would be a .44.  At least it's a few ounces lighter.

I own both the 357 and the 44. I don't know if I could decide which one I would give up if I had to. The 357 does have a little less recoil and would be cheaper to shoot. Why not just get both like I did and you won't need to choose that way. At any rate Henry Rifle Co. is first class in all aspects. I have dealt with them with not only buying there products but there service also. They know how to treat there customers and stand behind there products. If every american company did that we would be alot better off.  Al
