Checked out the Benelli pump action in 12 gauge yesterday. Seems to have good balance and feel for a 3 1/2 chambering, price was around $280.00 in black finish, has lots of advanced features, makes my Browning BPS seem antique-like. :-)

Why so low priced for a Benelli, as their semi-autos are around $800.00 plus? Is it because they want to undersell Remington's 870? Pumps are cheaper to make though so that would be understandable for a low priced pump.

Very tempting to buy it as an extra pump for primary hunting of turkeys and ducks. Anyone have experience with one of these, any good? I really liked what I saw, but understand that most of the time you get what you pay for. :?

I've noticed the low cost too. That must be the going rate for them. Benelli makes good guns. Their autos are considered by auto loading fans to be among the finest made by anyone. I think they've just figured out how to put together a good pump at a low price. One difference between the Nova and the BPS is wood and bluing (my 12 gauge is a BPS). Browning has excellent wood and excellent finish. That adds a lot to the cost, especially when compared to the less expensive but durable Nova finish and it's plastic stock.

I purchased a Benelli Nova w/ 26" barrel and full camo and have NO regrets. It has performed flawlessly with any and all ammo that I've run through it. I have used steel waterfowl loads (both factory and reloads), buckshot, trap loads, heavy lead hunting loads and slugs. All have shot with good results. :-)

I considered deer hunting with it and decided to shoot some 2 3/4" 1oz. Remington Slugger slugs with the factory Improved Cylender choke. It shoots them in a 4" group at 50 yards and that's good enough for the close ranges of hunting inside a wooded area.

After a long hassle with some mechanical malfunctions and a couple of return trips to the factory with a Remington Express Super Magnum, I sold it and purchased the Benelli Nova. If you purchase a Remington, make sure it's a Wingmaster model and NOT and Express model.

It will be well worth your time and money to purchase the full camo model Benelli Nova. Their bluing job on the Nova leaves room for improvement. The camo finish will be maintenance free and will last for years.

I've owned Mossberg 835, Mossberg 9200, Remington Wingmaster, Remington Express Super Mag, Remington 1100 and an Ithaca Deer Slayer....the Benelli Nova has out performed them all.

I have a full camo Nova too----but mine has a 24in barrel and camo mag extension---it has been flawless so far-----you won't go wrong getting one.

The black ones around here go for $299 and camo is $349---the mag extension was a bit pricey at $60---but it is camo finished to match the gun----I'm not sure if the black extentions are cheaper or not.

You can also pour in more bucks with a recoil reducer and bracket(sold separately)----I don't have that---because I didn't feel mine kicked all that bad.

I also have a Remington 870 Marine Magnum---which is also a good blaster----of a different sort.

To see the Benelli Nova in action tune in the Outdoor Channel TV and see Their representative I forgot his name, shoot wonders with one. He throws 8 clay birds into the air and hits all 8. He throws 4 (I think) Shoots 2 right handed then switches the gun to his left side and hits the other 2 left handed. The things he can do with it are remarkable. Horsefeathers.

He actually throws up 9 I believe lol. I have seen him on american shooter as well - great show as well as pull and shotgun journal that all appear on OLN in my viewing area (ut). At least they will again once those skinny guys riding two wheeled contraptions around France get done and real programming goes back on lol. Another fun show is hunting with hank hehe.

I did want to ask you owners of the Nova if you get a lot of looseness in the foregrip (punp)? This would not be when shucking as that is smooth as any pump, but when the slide is all the way foward in the ready to fire position? I can wiggle mine a bunch - can even hear it when you grip it. This would be no big deal really except in turkey hunting. I realise that pumps have some play in that area, but if anyone has figured out how to quiet this down. Please let me know.

These guns do seem much better than current remingtons (express) and have the recoil reducer capability as well as the button on the slide that allows you to eject a chambered round without putting one from the mag into the chamber ( so you can slide a diff shell in). I am not sure how much I will use that feature, but I can see applications for it as amount of shot, hardness of shot and powder can open up/close patters with the same choke. My question would be when would you really have time to slide a different one in lol.
I know most folks think a 3 1/2 will shoot farther with the same choke as a 3, but that may often not really be true either unless you really pattern to be sure as you may end up with holes out the whazoo. So slipping a mag in for a high shot may not help but hurt - but I digress lol.

I believe the gentleman doing the trick shotgun work on American Shooter is Mr. Tom Knapp. He used his Benelli semi-auto to break eight hand thrown clay targets with eight individually aimed shots. Benelli sponsers him as well.
