Any T/C Cherokee Guru's out there?

Just got a T/C, I think is a Cherokee 45 caliber. I have another one with a diamond on the stock, this one doesn't. This has a four digit serial number, 1xxx, & it doesn't say Cherokee on the barrel. Did they produce any without the Cherokee on the barrel? Also, I remember somewhere that T/C had a list of serial numbers to tell what year of manufacture. Barrel is bad rusty in the bore. What would be best to clean the barrel of rust? What do you think its worth? Any & all info would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

for rust i always use Flitz polishing compound on some 000 and 0000 steelwool.

T/C did make some early Cherokees w/o the Cherokee on the barrel.  Saw one go for 2x a "newer" one with name on it at an auction a couple of months ago (both were near perfect).  Both were .32, tho.  As for the rust, use some naval jelly on a patched jag until you get it out, then check for pitting.  If it is badly pitted (most likely), it is worth about $.04 a pound.  You may be able to get some of it (pitting) out with automotive rubbing compound or flitz.  Don't get too aggresive. tho.  T/C rifling is very shallow.  If pitting isn't really bad, it may still shoot PRB, but lead bullets will foul it out fast.  IMHO...

Forgot to mention, naval jelly will take the bluing off the crown of your barrel.  Put some masking tape over it and punch a hole in it with the jag before starting.
