Sighting in peep
« on: March 23, 2009, 12:38:10 PM »
Hey, fellas, my favorite lil' rifle may have a sight issue. Almost immediately after I purchased my .45-70 a couple years ago i installed a willaims receiver or 'peep' sight in the rearmost location on the barrel. While sighting it in at 75 yards a noticed that the peep has to be set back in almost the "lowest" position on th ramp. Hasn't really been an issue but i was wondering if that means I need a taller blade up front? If so, where could i obtain one? Thanks in advance, guys.

If you are able to hit where you want with in the adjustments available to you, your sight regulation is correct.

sounds like you need a taller front sight....there's a calc formula in the brownell's catalog, with that and a caliper you can determine exactly what height you need....put the rear sight in the middle of it's adjustment range and do the calculation, then whatever load you use you will be able to go up or down with the rear sight to dial the load in....it's real easy

Brownell's has an online sight calculator, there's a link to it in the Peep and Firesights link in the FAQs and Help sticky.  ;)
