What's with the round butt?
« on: March 11, 2009, 03:01:21 PM »
Are you talking about a gun with poor eating habits or what?  Really....  I've never seen this option on a gun.  Is it to reduce felt recoil or more of a "fashion" statement...?

Thanks

Some gunmakers will round the back of the butt as a special option. It;s supposed to help with recoil so the butt doesn't dig in your hand, and some like it for CCW. I think it looks interesting, but wouldn't want it done. First of all, if you didn't like it there is no way to revert back, and I think it might make the gun harder to hang on to. Others who actually have a gun like that might tend to disagree.

btw, this is off the subject, but does anyone else see ads about girls in swimsuits, and ads for getting you're teeth whitened ? Seem a little odd on a site like this.

thanks for the reply and info.

I was thinking about the banner ads too. Some short-minded marketing consultant is probably ripping off his client by going for alot of clicks, but from the wrong market. I bet they got alot of clicks, but no sales. I don't know much about the teeth ads. They're kinda scarry.

i have the rb option on my 97 41 mag and love it.  i believe it was designed to help minimize muzzle flip in guns with the shorter barrel lengths.  i spoke with bob baker about it before ordering my gun and i handled both the 83 and 97 in both configurations.  the rb allows a more "weight forward" feel, at least to me which allows me to shoot my 4.25" gun more accurately.  looks nice too ;D

My 97 also has the rounded butt option, and I am happy I ordered it that way. It does keep the back edge of the grip from digging into my hand with recoil and it makes the revolver just a bit smaller/easy to carry. There is no affect on holding onto the grip.
