Happy Anniversary to me
« on: March 24, 2009, 05:31:10 PM »

Today was my 30th wedding anniversary. While we were out of town on our getaway trip we stopped by Cabelas and the wife bought me a .44 mag SB2. It's marked SB2 on the barrel. She said pick so I did.

Congrats on the 30 years!

Now for the important stuff, this Handi she bought you.
It says SB2 on the barrel but is it an SB2 frame?

I looked at a new 44 mag a couple of weeks ago that said SB2 on the barrel also but when you turneb the gun around on the other side of the reciever it said "FOR 44mag 357mag and shotgun barrels only"

May not have been the exact words but close enough.
It also had the new serial # they are using now.

Which did you get?

Congrats Rusty, on the anniversay and the new Handi!! ;) As LT said, most barrels are marked SB2, even the SB1 rifles. If it's an SB2, I hope it has a Marlin made barrel. 8)

Congratulations buddy, on being blessed with a great wife/partner, with 30 years, and with a fine gun.

Be sure to do something special for your wife, after all she has put up with you for 30 years right?....<><.... ;D

It must be an SB2 frame because the ser# is an HX274XXX that is earlier than the .223 youth I bought with the lightweight barrel that is an HX 352XXX

Both are marked as made in Gardner.

The top of the barrel is marked SB2. I'm not sure if it's my imagination or what but the grooves look very shallow and the barrel is very heavy. I guess if it doesn't shoot well I guess I can always send it back.

SB2 made in 2007 well before they offered the SB1, hopefully made after Marlin started making the barrels early that year, shooting report is mandatory as usual!!  ;) The shallow rifling is normal, the bore size is the critical issue as to what will shoot well.

Guys I'll have to admit I have a great woman here. A long time ago I took the advice of my preacher. He told me that when you go looking for a wife make sure it's one you find in church. That way if you ever need to find her you'll know right where to look.

Both are keepers for sure, but I'd keep the wife longer.  The good ones are harder to find than a shooting handi out of the box.  I mean its easy to find another good shooting handi.  My wife says I mix words wrong.  I think she is right. ::)

Congrats and many, many, more!

I've been keeping watch on one at a local.  Marked as above and HX serial.  Has Older style syn straight stocks and open sights.  Down to 225 last mark down.  I got a gift card and just might go for it now that I am pretty sure an SB2.  Figured it was but never took the full serial to call Factory to find out.
