Meplat and a .41 Marlin going down?
« on: February 02, 2009, 11:14:07 AM »
I was rereading the polite discussion on K vs LBT style--  haveing used two of your molds a 240 WLNGC and 230 WFNGC -- I was wondering if I get this Marlin nib .41 does the meplat of what ever cast bullet I use in it need to go down because of the increased velocity -- in light of the DV figures- --I really do not want to down load -- and while I will use JHP at times -- I am cast at heart soooo?

Keith bullets have never worked well in Marlins for me. I'm sure they likely could be made to but those I've tried hung up at least half the time using them or any other conventional SWC design. That is one plus of Veral's designs they work much better for me in lever guns.

Thanks GB-- I figured that -- more than once when there was nothing but Keiths which I still like --I would crimp over the shoulder so they would feed better-- but was interested in the meplat thing as Veral says too much velocity was not so good if I understood him-- so I was interesting in if I keep what ever extra speed the lever action .41 gives would the meplat need to go down

You are tag on, if you want to get the flattest trajectory possible.  Use the LFN in a weight which you can drive at about 1800 fps, which will probably be around a 230 gr,  and you'll be riding the high limit for DV when you get close shots, and have super killing punch out to probably at least 250 yards, with a pretty nice trajectory for such a tiny rifle and cartridge.

How many lube and crimp grooves would the above bullet (41 mag, 230 gr LFN) have, and what's the current price on a 4 cavity PB?

I get $175 for my 4 cavity molds, $125 for two cavity, and with the current economy as it is and no matter how bad it gets, I promise that I will not raise my prices on any product we offer, as long as we can stay afloat.  Shipping price I'll leave out of that promise as it is a killer for a small shipper like us.

One fairly large lube groove if the nose length is .45.

It took me 2 months, but the order is on its way, regular mail, for a .410  220 LFN and 10 more sticks of LBT blue. Thanks again, Veral!

I have more than a real strong hunch that UPS has your mold, God only knows where, but will end up at your door with it real soon!  Thank you for the order.  You will get a lot of satisfiction out of the molds performance, while making bullets and using them.
