three swans
« on: March 22, 2009, 07:48:50 PM »
Saw three swans friday at one of the lakes on the edge of our village. Most lakes are still frozen over but a few are opening up. The geese will be next then the ducks. There headed to their summer nesting grounds further north. They don't nest here but travel through on their way north and south.

Means spring will not be far behind. And that makes me glad. ;D

There were two more swans on the lake yesterday. There headed north, to make more swans for next year ;) The cycle of life goes on. It's warming up as well . I went for a spin on the scoot yesterday as well. Riding my bike always makes me ;D.

I had to wonder if your three swans were the same three that I saw flying over our house, here in Washington State, but the ones I saw were flying south.  The thing that struck me about these swans was that they are the first that I ever remember seeing in many, years.  In addition, I saw a flock of white swans (66)about a month ago, flying over the Columbia River and four more swimming at the foot of an island.

I spend a lot of time outdoors and although I am not a didicated bird watcher, I do take particular notice of large birds and as far as I can remember, I've never seen anything like the swans that I've seen so far this year.  I take it as a good omen.

It will be five to six weeks before they show up here in their nesting grounds.  We are still locked up solid, temps are still well below freezing.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
