Barrel Fitting
« on: March 17, 2009, 09:31:33 AM »
I saw a Handi in a shop today that was cheaper than I was used to.  The reason was the barrel had play left and right.  It obviously had been one that someone put on and sold the shop.  The price is good and I could use the reciever and sell the barrel, but I don't want to chance the barrel being bad.  I have other recievers I could try it on but again, I don't know that much about them.  I read the sticky that if it is loose H&R probably can't fit it to the reciever.  Just because it is loose on this, does that mean it will be loose on all?  I looked at it and it looked to be unboogered with. ( my term)  Thanks.

You will probably find a frame it will fit on OK, if not, then a shim at the hinge pin will probably fix it.  Larry

My .357 was that way when I put it together, it was loose at the pivot, but locked up tight.  It shot extremely well.  l shimmed the pivot, it tightened up and still shot the same way.  If the price is right....grab it.  You'll do something good with it.

Consult with our Counselor, Atlaw on the proper fabrication of shims.  Richard can tell you exactly where to start and finish.

Just responded to you there DJ.   ;D  Unfortunately my wife called a crew in to clean up my man cave and they hauled off all my empty beer ca... uh, shim material.   :(  <bet they made a BUNCH a money on that deal...  >:(>

They also distroyed all my detailed notes on thicknesses, durability, etc. of the products offered by various brewers, distillers and importers, so I'm back to square one.    :'(  But have no fear!  I'll start over!   :o  After all, it's a sacrafice I'm willing to make for the good of the membership!   ::)  :P
