Friday, 3/27/09 in Georgia
« on: March 27, 2009, 05:20:43 AM »
Mornin boys!

I've had about enough rain for the time bein!   ::)  Maybe it will clear off by Sunday like they say and I'll be able to get some more trigger time.  Any of y'all belong to RiverBend Gun Club?

DP, the Ruger is SWEET!  I forgot how much fun you can have shootin pistolas!   ;D  'course right now I'm working up a hunting load.  Started of with a load Bill (GB) gave me which I like real well.  But I haven't been able to resist playing around with it.  I'm using 2400 and since I have shot up all the 44's I had on hand, I'm ordering a few hundred more from Montana Bullet works.  The hunting bullet will be the 260(?) gr. LBT WFNGC.  I've been running the 245 gr BBSWC's I had at 1100fps+ and would like to stay in that area for Bambi's sake.   :D

Ya know, I ain't never shot no hog my own darn self!   :-[  Then again I never really went hunting specifically for them.  I've hunted a lot of places that had them though.  I don't know as there are any up around your area.  I believer they are mostly in mid/south Georgia.

Just this last year or so they have moved into the area I hunt.  Not many, but a few.  In Georgia it used to be that they are the property of the landowner and can be hunted year round.  I imagine that's still the law...

Probably the best place to find some is on the WMA's.  As I remember you can only hunt them during deer season, but that may have changed.

Ft. Stewart over by Savannah is covered up with them.  It'd be interesting to see what their current regulations are on civilians hunting on Post.

You do the leg work and you got a hunting buddy!   ;D

If I am not mistaking they have a hog hunt in Cohutta and on John Mountain WMA.I will pick up a copy of the huntin regs when I go into town tonight and will see.If not not I wouldnt mind driving to Mid or South Jawja to be able to shoot a hog or 2 or maybe 3 maybe 4........or maybe just 1 HOGZILLA :P the last I read was that hogs were open to hunting year round with no closed season.I've been hanging around on the Georgia Outdoor News forums tryin to find some info on hog hunting.

DNR claims that Cohutta has a pretty good hog population. If you are looking for WMA's the Chickasawhattche is the place to go. Located West of Albany. Hannahatchee's hog population has grown over the years also. It is south of Columbus. There are a lot of farmers south of Macon that are more than happy to have folks come in and shoot them. Once you get south of Tifton the hog populations tends to taper off. There are still a few isolated pockets here and there with a few plantations that have enough to cater to paid guest. As for Lowndes County, I have only talked to two people that have actually seen hogs here in 6 years.

Well there you go Jon!   ;D  I think you ought to be in charge of getting a hog hunt set up for all of us!

If you are looking for a paid hunt, I can give you quite a few references. They include Ken's Fish Hatchery. That is where Hogzilla was shot. It is just south of Tifton. Right now is a good time to go. Still cool outside and a lot of plantations are willing to make some deals because they are slow.
