Bipod Mounting
« on: September 06, 2003, 06:32:18 AM »
I would like to mount a bipod on my 14" Contender for antelope hunting.  What has been the groups experience with the best way to go about this?
Right now it has a Pachmayr fore end, but I would be willing to replace it with any readily available system. Only have about a month left before the season (I know, should have gotten on this earlier) so custom made is probably out.

Can offrer what works extremely well for me using Harris bipods on my short Contenders.   I use just shy of barrel length Bullberry Woodsmith forends (with their hanger-bar system) that have a sling stud installed.    As for running out of time, Fred usually has at least a few extra forends on hand even though he makes custom to order.   Even his utility grade wood far surpasses the factory stuff, and they are priced right.   Worth a call to Fred...

My pronghorn rig is a 15" 6.5 Super Bower (Bullberry barrel - Bower chambered).   What will you be using?    Good luck with the hunt.

Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

a 7mm Bellm. I had my factory 7X30 Waters worked on by Mike. He cleaned out the factory throat and chambered to 7 X 444. This has worked out great much better in terms of accuracy and velocity than the factory 7X30 W. Will use Nosler 120 bal tips. Will certainly checkout Bullberry. Thanks

I've installed a swivel stud in the forearm of my 14" barrel and use a Harris designed for prone shooting.  I've also tried the universal barrel adaptor from Harris.  Adaptor is nice, since the bipod is mounted closer to the muzzle.  Hope it helps.
How'd you like a peek at my 14-incher? (Contender, that is)
