Wheeww, 150 grains of powder. My state doesnt issue elephant tags
I'll go with tripple seven and wolfehound on this one. probably more than 100 grains is a waste of money for the return you get for the extra charge not to mention the possible safety issue especially with all of the old sidelock guns around. Just because you can dump that much powder down the barrel doesnt mean it is needed. I have seen guys put those type of charges in older guns just because so and so uses it in his gun and when it recocks the hamer they get all excited thinking how much more powerful this load his friend gave him is!
The law of diminishing retuns still applies for BP.
With 70 grains of 3F or 2F under a thompson style maxi ball dropped from my own mold in my old 45 cal mountain rifle I have taken many deer. The maxi ball has never stayed in a deer yet and a couple of those shots were a little beyond the 100 yard mark.
Just a little food for thought here
