All is quiet
« on: January 22, 2009, 03:33:15 AM »
Well, I am just wondering what everyone is doing.  Not much chatter on this site lately.  Anyone still hunting?  I've about given up hunting and thinking about going trout fishing.  I did load a couple hundred .223s the last few nights, just in case I decide on a spur of the moment trip out west where the buffalo and prairie dogs roam.  I reload when I am out of anything else to do. Probably should have been checking on my power bait supply and oiling the reels. The BB truck brought my Midway order of blem bullets last night.  The  140 grain .270s appear to be Sierra boat tails and at $13.xx a hundred, they are an excellent buy.  Midway doesn't tell the brand name but there was a Sierra bullet chart in the shipping box and the .270s match.  I haven't identified the 140 gr. 6.5s or  55 gr. .223s yet but I'm pretty sure the .223s are not Remington because  that is what I was loading at the time.  The bullets have been repackaged in 100 ct blue flip top plastic boxes with the Midway name on them.

I do the reloading when I have nothing else to do also.  I just ordered some primers and about passed out trying to find them in the quantity that I wanted.  I have gotten spoiled on the bullets by going to Sedelia, MO twice a year and buying them directly from Sierra.  I also found a website www.powdervalleyinc.com that I have bought some things from.  I also buy some once fired brass from Blue Star in Searcy.  I just bought another 243 so I will be working up a load for it before to long.  I will most likely hunt at least once more this season if the weather permits and the mood strikes!

im just getting started on reloading but have about 85 rounds of 223 worked up in various loads. gonna get a few more ready then make a trip to the range to see what my gun likes the best. one load use the nosler 40 gr ballistic tip and the other uses the seirra 55 gr hollow point. ive got the powder and bullets to start reloading for my 45-70 but still waiting on dies and large primers.

Been loading 308 lately for my 700VS. I will be testing a Marlin 25-06 in a few days & in about a month I will go to work on 223 loads for a couple of RRA's.

Well, it's March now; time to start getting the food plots ready and clearing out the winter deadfall. Mowing the shooting lanes on a regular basis and doing a bit of scouting is also in order.  I think I'll start looking for a couple of close range handgun areas to hunt.  Only 9 months 'til November... time to start getting ready!

I was just thinking yesterday, about needing to get to work on a food plot. I cleared a place out before I deployed early fall last year. I need to get out there soon, and finish clearing a small area, I didn't finish, and till the ground up. After that, I need to go on an fertilize and lime and get ready to plant in the next few weeks. Between work, and taking the kds to Disney World in two more weeks, I don't know when I am going to get time though. It may just become a fall food plot. I bought a bunch of turnip seeds on clearance last week to plant this fall.

I'm still cleaning up after the Ice storm and trying to get my spring yardwork done in time for the spring fishing.

Too long till hunting season!  I have six kids so I get plenty a fishin in my spare time,  just not the same.  Heard we're getting two youth hunts this year.  Oh well, be here afore ya know it.
Life's too short, buy more guns and hope you can find ammo to shoot them!
