Crossman pointed and Beeman gold
« on: September 14, 2003, 04:40:00 PM »
I recently bought a chronograph and have had my eyes opened on a few items.  I use a lot of Crossman pointed pellets and recently bought the Beeman gold hollow points.
The Beeman chrono about 50-75 fps faster than the pointed in all my rifles and the Crossman seem to fit a little looser in the barrels.
Does anyone know if the crossman would be hurting the springs or other parts of the rifle.
Probably not but just curious.  Thanks.

I don't see why there would be any damage to your gun

shooting the Beemans at a higher velocity, as I would think the same energy is being generated by the rifle regardless ... the energy transfer and ballistics of the pointed pellets is just just less efficient. Also pointed pellets are less accurate because they are harder to manufacture within specification. They were made for hunting, but due to the tendency to over penetrate and lack of accuracy, I quit using them. What has your experience been?

I noticed the difference in fit also between crossman premier and beeman crow mag, the crow mags being a tighter fit. I hope the crossmans don't hurt anything as I have 2 boxes@ 1250 ea.

The lead pellets are so much softer than your steel barrel, I wouldn't think that outside of maybe a bit more fouling, there would be anything to worry about.

Yes, they aren't quite as accurate and I have shot right through quite a few squirrels. I think Ill eventually use them up but Ime switching to the gold and think Ill call AGE and get some of the blue coated pointed pellets. One of the other fellows posted about the crossman pellets but he was referring to the Premiers and they are much different and better than the regular Crossman Pointed. Thanks.

Ive always heard the Crossman Premier are about as good as it gets. Don't get them confused with the Crossman pointed.  The pointed weigh 7.9 grains and the Premier are 10.5.  the Premiers for the .20 caliber are super tight in most barrels and sometimes require a pell seater to seat them.  They weight 14.5 I believe and I have had good luck with them.  But I like the Kodiaks better.  Thanks.
