Uncle Sam..
« on: March 02, 2009, 12:19:34 PM »
wants your LEAD..... This is not as much of a problem in non-traditional
circles, but what is a purist to do? Has anyone here ever tried to remove
Lighter metals such as tin from molten lead? Think about tire weights and
you can see why I ask. at a certain temp. I wonder if the metals would separate?
may seem like a dumb question now but who knows what the future holds?
I have been using the same shooting range on my property
for almost 20 years so I know where a lot of lead is but digging and sifting
will be a very last resort

From what I hear at other traditional forums it takes special equipment to seperate different metals...I get my lead free from my dentist...

btw...I won't stop shooting lead, I make my own balls for both my .40 and 54...

When I worked at an aluminum plant, all types of metal came in as alloys. While tin would alloy w/ aluminum, lead wouldn't. It would hang, to a certain extent, in between the other metals, but if there was very much, it would run right on through the ingots. SO, if you can melt aluminum and wheelweights, for instance together, the aluminum alloy, whatever it happens to end up being, will solidify first while the lead won't alloy with aluminum, hopefully the tin would, and you'd have lead running out. Efficiency is the big question, but it might be fun to try with a forced draft charcoal fire.

A copper conical will work using a plastic sabot.  It will become illegal to shoot or hunt with lead.  It's just a matter of time.

A saboted bullet won't work in my slow twist, deep cut round ball flintlocks...If they require that I stop using lead, looks like I'll break the law...

That's up to you but the fine won't be worth it, the copper bullet in a plastic sabot will work.

My .54 has a .015 deep, round bottom cut rifling that has a 1-72 twist...I'm not putting any plastic sabot and copper slug down the barrel, not happening...

Sabots are made for the shallow, button rifled factory guns with the faster twists...

I bet Randy wakeman would say they work.  He is an expert by the way. I willnever put them in my traditional guns either.

What's the point in stocking up on something they are not going to let you use?  I see people doing that at every gun show.

A better question would be, What are YOU doing to stop this sort of legislative preemption of our rights, Swampman?

I'm learning how to use what I'll have to use.  I'm not concerned about this country or it's government.....period.
