CZ-52 Recoil Spring
« on: April 02, 2009, 01:30:08 PM »
I'm convinced already that the recoil spring should be upgraded to one of Wolff's stiffer models.

Undecided about whether I should opt for the 16.5 or 18.5 pounder. One well respected vendor (Reeds) suggests going with the latter:

What do you guys think?

Look at it this way, I don't know of any commercial ammo that will not function 100% with the 18.5# spring. And we do recommend it for all the high power loads. It certainly reduces the wear on the pistol as well as reduces felt recoil. It does reduce some of the extreme ejection on the common loads (wolf, S&B, Winchester, etc) and with our loads ejection will be about the same as with the factory 14.5# spring.

The only drawback is that you do have an extra 4# of effort when seating the barrel in place.

I went with the 18.5 on mine as well. I change all the recoil springs on my milsurps
with new ones from Wolff. Who knows how old and used up the springs are that come
with these old handguns? It's cheap insurance. My CZ 52 still launches the empties
into the next county though! :o ;D

That's no biggie IMO. Already knocked out two little takedown punch
tools to keep with our pistols for assembly/disassembly at the range:

But racking the slide even with the OEM spring is like grabbing a slippery fish!

Ordered just the recoil springs for my new CZ and my buddy's, we'll see about the others... might need to swap out the retractor/lock ones, dunno' yet.
We opted for the 'middle-of-the-road' approach and went for the 16.5 lb. springs for now.
If later we want to get the big daddys they're just $7.98/ea.

Hoping the ejection will be a little tamer as some others have experienced.
