PICKUP TRUCK CAMPER OPTIONS

I have a very nice old GMC 2500,and am looking at a Bigfoot camper-only problem is the older Bigfoots are too wide to slide in the box.I have two options-modify the camper by cutting down the passenger side 4'' to allow it to slide in,or remove the pickup box and attach the camper directly to  the frame[this would allow some aluminum side boxes to be attached-not a bad idea either]Another advantage would be less weight .Has anybody else done this?

I would inquire the mfg. as to whether the bottom of the camper is up to the road and weather abuse.

You may cause damage to the structure by cutting it down. I can't say for sure with out looking at it but that really sounds like a bad idea to me. Dale

cutting the camper box is an option-you cut on the passenger side where there is a storage area , the other side is holding tanks.Good question on the undersade being weather proof-bigfoot campers are fiberglass, but not sure of the bottom.I would think adding a piece of 3/4 plywood, glassed ,wouldn't be a bad idea
