.35rem and .358win Loads needed
« on: August 31, 2003, 01:03:21 PM »
I've done something really stupid.  This summer I purchased two new rifles, one a model 7600 in 35rem. and the other is the BLR in .358 win.
The stupid part is not buying the rifles, its ,Now I want to reload for these two find calibers.
So, went to Ebay and bought a "1991" orange crusher"[like new] with a Lee powder measure kit, RCBS uniflow powder measure, piggy back stand, and a bunch of stuff that I'm not sure how to use! So much stuff the guy had to send it in two big different box's. The book is 91' also and it doesnt have but 3 listing each, on each cal.
Does anyone have any load info using the Nosler partition or the Nosler ballistic tip, both being 225gr bullets?[bouthgt the bullets before load book arrived]!!!!!!
Was thinking ballistic for deer and black bear and partitions for elk and moose!  Whats your opinion on these two bullets??
Also, any advice on setting up would be most helpful !!!!!! Thanks ..... :D

I just started reloading 358 myself. Tried some 250 grs but found out of my BLR couldn't get anywhere near posted velocities. I've kind of settled on 200 gr. rem's. They will go top velocities and out of my rifle accuracy is good. I wouldn't hesitate to use that load on moose. I'm using 48.0 gr's of WC845 which is a surplus powder similar to H335.

From my Nosler manual: for the 225 gr partition. MAXIMUM listed loads are:

36.5 of RL7 (max.) @2220 fps
49.5 of IMR4895 (max.) @2530 fps
47.0 of IMR4320 (max.) @2390 fps
50.0 of H380 (max.) @2190fps

Don't think you can ever go wrong with a Nosler Partition.

No loads for the spitzers but in the .35 rem, my favorite and most accurate is a 180 grain Speer FP over 39.5 grains of IMR4064 compressed. It is a maximum load in my Marlin so approach with caution.

See my ad "Ammo for sale" in the classifieds.  Have 30 rounds of 35 Rem for sale, loaded with Remington's 150 gr PSP bullet.  Used these in a 16" TC Contender barrel that I've sold.

I think you may be disappointed to find that the nose of the 225 Ballistic Tip is too long for the BLR and it will be too heavy for best results in the .35 Remington. The 225 Partition is probably too heavy AND too strongly constructed for the .35 Remington. Two bullets that WILL probably work well in both rifles are the 225 Sierra (shorter nose) and the 220  Speer (flat nosed). I have tried the BT in a 81 BLR and the round is round is too long to eject if the bullet is seated  with the tangent of the ogive and the shank at the case mouth. If you do this you may have a fine mess because you can't get the round out unless you manage to pull  it out thru the bottom of the magazine opening. This is due to that long  sharp plastic tip. If you are dead set on a pointy 225 bullet, the Sierra may be the best choice. Other decent bullets are  the 200 Remington Pointed Corelokt and the 200 Hornady spitzer.
IMR3031 or IMR4895 should work well in both the .358 and the .35 Remington. You can get data on both for 200 grain bullets on the IMR website. I would not recommend using loads from individuals off of the web without some research and verification. A simple typo could cause a train wreck.
I have had very good " rifle range" results with the 180 Speer, the 200 Hornady RN, 200 RN Sierras, 200 RN Herters!!, and 200 Remington Pointed Corelokts all using 3031. I use middle of the data loads. I have used the 180 Speer on 1 white tail with excellent results.
