Anyone shooting Barnes TSX in their 1895 45/70?
« on: April 22, 2009, 02:44:27 AM »
Hello,
I've been tinkering around with handloads for my 1895G.  So far I've been shooting 405gr remington JSP bullets because they're great for the range.  I'm thinking about working up a load to be used for bear hunting.  I like the idea of the 300gr Barnes bullets because they'll flatten out the ballistics, penetrate, & perform like their reputation says.  I usually get caught in the mindset that I want heavy for caliber bullets, but I have to remind myself that a 300gr bullet isn't a lighweight.

Has anyone handloaded the barnes 300gr tsx bullets or used the corbon barnes ammo?  I'm just curious about how they shoot before I buy them at $1 a piece.  I appreciate all the help.

I'm an avid Guide Gun hunter and have reloaded a lot of good loads for it and I'm a big TSX fan using them in the .243, .308 and 30-06. I'm guessing that the .45 TSX's are made for higher velocities than I can get from my 18" barrell. If you have a full sized 1895 and work up carefully you might get the necessary velocity for proper expansion but I'm a little skeptical. If you try it let us know how it goes.
