I'm hooked on plastics!!!!!!!
« on: August 27, 2003, 06:57:26 AM »
I got back into my old groove again throwing topwater/cranks for nothing but after 30 minutes of non action I switched to plastics started off with senko's then senko worms and that was it the worms were the pattern I was looking for.  I have to say I'm hooked on plastics.  Last friday I ordered $30 more of stick o worms from BPS and later friday nite I ordered $30 more different colors.  The color pattern changes first it was red then just hits on red with no takers then it was Gambler ace in blue and now its senko worms in brown flake its awesome.  Lastweek we had some colder morning and the fish responded into a fall feeding pattern then it got hot again and the slowed down to a slow presentation/slow bite.  But i'm still catching something which feels good anyway.

Im with you on the plastics.  I have been partial to gambler worms lately. I have exclusively been using their "brushhog" type worm in red shad with green glitter and black with blue tail.  I have been catching alot on those 2 colors down here in GA.

The best part of worm fishing is feeling the "bump" reelin down on it .... then setting the hook.  I like that better than topwater.

Did you say BRUSHHOGS???  I bought Gambler Brush Hogs and never use them till a few weeks ago.  I'm fishing off a low bridge and happen to switch from crankbaits to a brush hog and nailed a 5lber under the bridge awesome fight.  The guy I was with swears by livebait and told me I'm catching all the bigger bass on lures!!!  And the gambler ACE in blue flake rules too I have been switching from BPS stick o worms in red amber flake and senko's in red black flake then to gamblers blue flake with god success too.   If I'm missing hook ups I change colors then its on!!  At first it was tough to fish plastics because its slower than the  usual spinnerbaits/crankbaits/inline spinners/minnowbaits  I use.  I just have to relax when I fish plastics and found it hard at first to just sit still and work plastics.  They are awesome!!!                          BigBill

I can remember in the early 70's using black CREME worms splitshot rigged casting around drop off's catching 3lb smallies.   I think they were the only plastics then and it was either natural color, black or purple were the first plastic worms back then.  I never bass fished that much maybe once or twice a year since then until 4 years ago then I got into it heavy.  Now I fish everyday and like using new stuff just to see if it works.  And all this stuff does work its just a matter of knowing how to use it!!!!

Man there's a lot of worms in the world.  I fish a lot of them myself.  Fact is, they make up about 70% of my tackle mainly because there's 100 packs of worms with 3 or 4 left in them.

Gambler makes a good product as do a lot of others.  I like to use something made away from here.  Zoom is the dominant worm here.  Something a little different helps a lot.  Fish get tuned in pretty quick when there's 500 people throwing the same worms.

I guess I'm not doing too bad by using something new/different every year because the fish do learn baits when they see it all the time.  But there isn't really anyone here as serious as me or you guys.  Most don't have a clue what they are doing and the stuff they are using is driving fish away this is why I fish at 5am!!!!!                 BigBill

SKipper i agree with you on local baits.  Zoom is located 45 min from my house here in GA.  They are located in Bogart.  They seem to hold those gambler worms.   And everyone fishes worms on the pond that i fish.  Thats why i have been using those brush hogs.  Has been working the last few times i have been out.  ill post a report from this weekend on monday.  Going to south GA. this weekend for some bow hunting/fishing.

Actually its  a 300 acre cypress pond.  (tons of cypress trees).  ITs a private pond where you pay a yearly membership for fishing.  ITs got huge bream, big bass, cats, crappie, jack(pickeral), mudfish.  And gators.  Trolling motor only.  the lake is catch and release on  bass.... unless its going to be a trophy and that is over 10 lbs only.  The largest bass outta there is 11 lb 3 oz. that i have caught.  They have pictures with some going 13 and 14 lbs.

Allatoona is about 1hr 15 from my house.  LAke lanier is about 20 minutes away.

I surf Woodystaxidermy.com very frequently.  Seen you on there. im not a member of the board.  Just like to read everyones posts since they all come from GA. when it come to hunting reports/fishing reports etc.

I'll send you some dove hunting pictures if we get any pictures taken to post on  your site.  dove season for the southern zone starts, sept 27.
Bow season starts this weekend.  looking forward to it.  talk later, and hopefully ill have a good bass report.

Sounds like a great place to fish.

Altoona is that lake you pass on I-75?  I think?  It always looks empty when I go by it?  Of course its usually in December or Jan on the way to Okechobee.  I wondered about it.  Several of my buddies fish West Point some.  I've never fished it, but it sounds a whole lot like Martin to me.
