Taurus autos in .38 Super
« on: April 05, 2009, 03:07:01 PM »
Hey All,

This is my first post in this area of the forum. I've been bitten by the handgun bug lately (bought a Ruger 50th Anniversary Blackhawk last month and have a Sig Mosquito on layaway), and, having just picked up a Stoeger Cougar for my best friend, I'm looking for a good shooting, affordable automatic for myself. For some odd reason I've taken a liking to the .38 Super cartridge (I understand it is virtually a reloader's round, which is fine with me), and noticed that Taurus offers two different models in this chambering; the medium frame PT38 which has been around for a few years, and the brand new PT911. I've handled a .45 ACP PT911 and was very impressed with it, and have also been impressed by a friend's 24/7 in 9mm. I have not handled any Taurus in .38 Super however. I was hoping to try my luck on here and see if anyone has any experience with either of Taurus's .38s. If the feedback is good (I've read a few positive reviews elsewhere on the PT38S) and the price is right, I may have to order one before they stop making them :o ;D Thank you kindly for any and all information you can provide folks :)

~450 Marlin~

P.S. I have already looked at the Witness line of pistols from Tangfoglio. The guns themselves impress me, especially for the price, but I've pretty well talked myself out of these due to EAA's lack of customer support. Still, if I found one laying around somewhere for the right price, I might have to reconsider my position  ;D

My info is a little different as I have a PT911 in 45ACP and love it.  It shoots as good or better than my Kimber 1911 and out of curiosity I traded some parts with some colt 1911 parts and they fit fine.  The second part of my experience is with the 38 super cartridge.  I had a colt 1911 in that caliber for some time and found it to be an accurate and powerful round.  I mostly hand loaded for it with cast lead bullets and it worked flawlessly.  I liked it because it had a flatter trajectory than the 45 ACP.  In fact is was similar to a light 357 Mag load.  The 38 super is a good round.
