Polishing receiver/replacement barrel for 1908 Brazilian
« on: April 24, 2009, 01:56:01 AM »
What is the proper way of polishing a once bright receiver? I want to achieve a low gloss sheen. The receiver is a 1908 Brazilian made by DWM. After using a brass hand brush it cleaned up nice, but then a brownish patina would return on one side of the receiver ring after wiping down with oil (breakfree).

By any chance does anyone have or know a source for a large ring, stepped replacement barrel in 7mm or 7.65? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I parkerize older mausers and what I use to remove the old finish to get down to bare metal is Muriatic Acid.Work outdoors with it and rinse it very well and you will get down to bare metal which, if you keep it oiled will be the low sheen you are talking about.
As far as the barrels, go to this site:
