SKB O/U

I'm looking at an SKB 20ga O/U.  I know that they have made for many of the big us manufacturers and are supposed to have one of, if not the, strongest lock up.

The one I'm considering is field grade and handles well.  Anyone shooting or shot these in the past?  Were you satisfied or would a few more $ have given you an O/U that would have been a better fit?  Any known weaknesses in this brand?

They shoot OK but tend to beat my face up badly. The 12 is totally unbearable to me. I had a friend with one once and after he'd shoot a round or two of skeet with it he looked like he'd been in a fight and lost.

Mine was a 20 gauge and even it beat my face to the point I sold it.

Waaaayyyy back in 1967 a buddy and I both bought new Ithaca/SKB's.  I got the S/S Model 100 and he got the O/U Model 500(?)  We both still have them and have had zero problems with either.

In my opinion either makes an excellent grouse/woodcock gun (both are 20 gauge).  They are light and easy to carry all day in the thick, nasty cover where those birds are usually found.

I would not recommend one if you plan on much high-volume shooting because they are light and as GB said they will beat you up on a skeet range!

I have two 505 field models - one in 20 and one in 28 - they are a hard-working gun that, IMO, will last as long as Browning or Beretta.  A little heavy for all-day carry for hunting, but work well for clays or hunting where you're not constantly walking uphill, (like chukar hunting in NV)....
