Went to our local TEA party today
« on: April 15, 2009, 11:55:08 AM »
I went to our local TEA party today here in Winchester, VA.
Weather wasn't the greatest.
Been raining all day.
It started at 12 noon with the pledge of allegiance and a prayer.
We had 3 speakers lined up.
One was a noted local, one was a law grad from one of our local community colleges, and the main speaker was out STATE SENATOR, JILL VOGAL.
Man she really laid it to them.
I even got to meet her before the rally began.
She is a very nice person who believes as we do that our government has gone to far and in the wrong direction.
She is new to the SENATE, only 2 years, so she hasn't been brainwashed like the others! :D

We had a pretty good turn out of about 200 to 300 people.
Not to bad considering the weather.

There was a couple of people from MOVE-ON.ORG there trying to get people to sign a petition, but from what I could see they weren't having any luck.
They were being avoided like they had the plague.

There was a couple of news reporters from the local papers there and I got my picture taken, or should I say my shirt did.
Not once but twice!
No interview.
I guess they were after fill photos.
Don't know if they will use them or not.

I saw a few friends and mad a couple of new ones.
I also did a lot of hand shaking and said a lot of thank you for your service SIR to a bunch of past and present service men!
That was almost the best part of the day! :)

I couldn't stay for the whole thing but it was still going strong when I left.

I had a really good time!!!

Below is a couple of pic from the party and 2 of the shirt I wore.
It did get a lot of reading while I was there!

The one of the crowd was taken early when there was only about 100 people there.

YEA I know, I am a fat little fart!

Just got off the phone with my wife who was returning from the tea party in San Jose at the IRS building. She spent the last few hours there with her sign. She met a few other women and they are now on their way to another tea party gathering in Santa Clara. She said the turnout at San Jose was a couple hundred people. Not much for a city that big. But whata expect, this is Kalifornia. However, Sacramento is suppose to have the biggest group and I'm seeing on the internet that there were upwards of 5 thousand there.

I think this day will get some attention from the liar in the white house and his crone’s stealing our money and giving it to their friends on wall street and the big unions.

I made the one in Chattanooga.  I'd estimate 1500+ or so at ours.

Right now, the CNN talking heads are repeatidly diminishing the tea party goers as:

1. a tiny minority
2. mean spirited nastyness on the part of many protesters. (mind you,"many" can mean more than one). They offered NO examples, photos, interviews or anything to back up this claim.
3. Obamas approval rating is 60%
4. Taxes are at the bottom of the American peoples list of important items!!!

Unreal.

were some good speeches, one 18 year old black girl said "dont share my wealth(when I get it) share my work ethic!

This is just the beginning, we will keep this up until we get rid of all the elected officials that won't do there jobs we hired them to do.

We had over 1000 at our rally today, cold, rainy and still a great showing.

I would expect that from CNN!

A White House staff member was suppose to give an interview on FOX news tonight but latter declined and decided to appear on CNN instead.

I guess they just can't stand the thought of even talking to our side.

DArn it!  The wife and I were ready to walk out the door when the lens fell out of my glasses.  I am blind as a bat with out them so I had to miss it.  I understand there was a good turn out here.

The glasses are new, about three weeks old.  I have them taped up now, and will take them back tomorror for a fix.

To preserve the independence of the people, we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our election between economy and liberty, or profusion and servitude. If we run into such debts as that we must be taxed in our meat and in our drink, in our necessaries and our comforts, in our labors and our amusements, for our callings and our creeds, as the people of England are, our people, like them, must come to labor sixteen hours in the twenty-four, give the earnings of fifteen of these to the government for their debts and daily expenses, and the sixteenth being insufficient to afford us bread, we must live, as they now do, on oatmeal and potatoes, have no time to think, no means of calling the mismanagers to account, but be glad to obtain subsistence by hiring ourselves to rivet their chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers."

I for one, have no problem with a man quoting someone else; especially when the quotation fulfills the intended purpose and is written much more eloquently than most today are capable of.  Thomas Jefferson said what needed to be said at the time.  His statement is as wholy applicable today as it was in 1816.

How many of us labor the majority of the day?  We may not labor 16 hours per day, yet our taxes are still oppressive and onerous.  How many of us can fathom the enormity of $1 trillion dollars, yet our goverment has committed trillion's of dollars that we are left to pay the bill for.  This is a perpetual debt that will never be paid off.  Many can ill-afford the simplest of modern luxuries, yet our government insists upon tossing truckloads of money upon the burning pyres of ill managed and corrupt corporations in order to perpetuate those same companies business.

I do not find quoting one of the founders of our constitution a problem. They were the ones that actually stood up and made a difference. What are you doing to make a difference?

It's stupid comments like this allow our founding principles to be lost in the name of so called "progress". Jefferson was one of our most brilliant historical politicians and the principals he espoused then are perfectly true & applicable today. In fact, Jefferson wanted us and asked us (in his writings) to recall these, quotes and letters and use them to assist in future debate.

Perhaps you should pick up a book on Jefferson or anyone of the others, a copy of the constitution and declaration of independence. You too may then see the wisdom and realize that quoting these people today is a good way to "ground" us in our designed principals. But then again, I seem to think that learning & remembering may be a tough concept for you. You come across as non-deliberate, thoughtless and surface scouring. Maybe you are not any of this. I can only come to this conclusion from what I read of your writing all over GBO.

Maybe, you are with the actor Alec Baldwin when it comes to our founding fathers. Alec said he feels "assaulted" by our founding fathers every day of his life. I say to Baldwin and others like him, go----there are other countries for you to move to. No need to feel assaulted. Free transport available.

All I was asking was if you had anything to add to Jeffersons quote. It was by no means a rip on him or you Cabin4.

I have to say that the TEA Party movement has really surprised me.  It is nice to see so many people come together on their own to show their feelings toward big government.  Maybe there aren't as many sheep as we thought?

I went to the one in Fairbanks.  Pretty big turn out for a small town like this on a work day.  We picked up premade signs and stood along the road that goes to the Federal bldg.  Met a lot of new people, both liberals and conservatives, but already knew half the people there.  Funny to see some of our local Bunny Huggers out there protesting taxes.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I went to the one here in Stuart Florida yesterday and it was awesome with probably 1500 people. Not a huge number but pretty good for a little town like Stuart.

Cabin by all means keep right on quoting Jefferson he was one of my favorites.

The main stream media may not want to give us air time but you can bet those politicians have people telling them just how many people showed up and just how pissed everybody is. The only thing a politiician likes better than hearing his own voice is remaining employed. They have to be getting very worried about the 2010 elections.

Good quote C4. I'll read Jefferson as long as you want to post him. He is worth reading, and that particular quote fits perfectly into today's times.

I went to one in Burleson, TX and we had between 800 and 1000 folks there.  Not bad for a suburb, especially when there was another 15 miles away.  I had friends in Fort Worth, and there were 5-6 thousand there.  Of course the Fort Worth Star-Telegram (our own local LA/NY Times) downplayed the numbers and half of the story covered the DNC response.

I know here in Texas folks are fed up, and this was not our finale.  This was the first little minor tremor of Americans waking up and saying ENOUGH!!
