Here is one that the OP vid links to.  I question the need to beat on it with a mallet like that.

I'm sure y'all noticed:

NO safety glasses.

Pouring powder into the bore from the full container (not a measured amount).

Not using a safety-rammer.  AND using a mallet!

Were there more violations?a

It looks that they are trying to show the traditional manner these were loaded in the time period,
I have seen other videos where mallets were used to load, it is possible with the early crude powder
that was to be had at the time as much compression as could be had was necessary for proper firing,
Yea, it would be nice if they observed proper safety procedures but if this is what they had during the
period I can understand the use of this video.

B4 corn powder it was a fine meal , I have no clue if it needed a beatin .

From the looks of those guns I'd guess corned powder was in common use .

Believe me I've seen some weird ways of "packing powder" and/or seating a patched ball in the muzzle loading rifle world. :o

ETA for what its worth I wouldnt beat that powder ..... ???

I (usually) ask myself 'what happens when IF ...'

With cannons, it's "what happens when it goes off and I'm operating the hammer packing the powder?"  From there common sense (usually) prevails.

They are seating the wad or ball you can't tell if this is a blank load or ball load,

here is another video I posted some months ago on casting early cannon,

In the intro they show a mallet being used

Were they beating powder or were they seating a tight ball?

They were seating a tea bag that they use as an over powder wad.

For illustration of the period loading technique, I can kind of understand a smack or two with a hammer.  But, GEEZ!  it looks like he is driving a spike into a tree.

Judging from the construction of the packaging for the indiviual bags, and the colour of them, I suspect that ther wer either Twinings Earl Grey or Celestial Seasonings Lemon Zinger. Personally, I think that Twinings Lapsang Suchong would give a better pack, and  since it already has a smokiness to it, would add to the over all experience.  So there !  ;D

No, but tomorrow is April 19th!  (Patriot's day - 1774 - the first shot heard 'round the world !)

CELEBRATE, pause and think about our forefathers' values and what they paid.

Didn't look like there was anything in the tea bags.  And judging from the recoil, they weren't firing shot.  Their barrels seem very short; maybe only 6" or so.

No, the packageing for that is usually a light green.  The wrappers of the tea bags they chose were yellow. See my post above.  Of course, it may be some off-brand of tea they are using, so my guesses about it may be wrong.
