.357 load
« on: April 16, 2009, 04:19:34 PM »
I reloaded lots of .357 years ago.  I used 9.3 grains of Unique with a 125 gn JHP. I loaded and shot many this way. This was good according to my Sierra book in 1996.  I got a new set of Lee 357 dies and the sheet that came with it list max for unique around 6 grains.  I'm pretty sure this was for 357 and not 38 special( its in the shop and I'm not).  So did I misread or are these to hot?

Alliant's website (http://www.alliantpowder.com/reloaders/RecipePrint.aspx?gtypeid=1&weight=125&shellid=28&bulletid=28&bdid=89) shows 9.6gr Unique as max for a 125 gr Speer GDHP using CCI 500 primers.  Same bullet and primer in .38spl shows 5.7gr max so it looks to me like you are remembering the .38spl load (or Lee is WAY off from what the powder manufacturer shows...)

I have a set of 38/357 dies from Lee. It lists 38 special loads only on the loading sheet - no 357 loads.
