Bear gurus causes death of 4 people and 2 brown bears

The news report earlier in the week about Timothy Treadwell, self proclamed bear guru being killed by a grizly sparked my interest, and a short trip into my browser pulled out some shocking facts about the former heroin addict with a death wish. Dozens of articles showed his infantile disregard for the danger involved in coming in close proximity to Alaskan brown and grizly bears. Repeated warnings by game and fish officers, park managers, and wildlife professionals were greated by outlandish comments such as "I would deem it an honor to wind up in bear scat", and "bears are just harmless party animals". This last statement being repeated on the Letterman show. Park officials said "this incident was not a matter of if, but when. The thing that really angers me is the fact that 3 other people along with Treadwell also wound up dead. His female companion was killed along with Treadwell, but 2 more deaths that were the result of his "bear teachings" took place in Glacier park. It seems the last two people killed (by bears) in Glacier National Park went off the trail into the brush. They said their goal was to find a grizzly bear so they could 'do a Timothy.' We have a trail of dead people and dead bears because of this trend that says, 'Let's show it's not dangerous.' ''

And Timothy said we "sport hunters" were bad guys.

Saw him on a TV special recentl and he was definately anti hunting and basically a fool.  Now he got his wish.  he is in the bear scat.

I know one thing that if I was a parent of Amie Huguenard I would be going after Treadwell's estate with everything I could.  Amie trusted Treadwell and his so called knowledge of bears.  He let her down.  The latest news is that Treadwell had video and still cameras set out around camp.  One was in a backpack and Treadwell had a voice actuated mic button in his pocket and they at least got the attack on sound tape.  They haven't released much yet but enough to know that the bear attacked Treadwell first.  The report goes on to state that you can hear her yelling at Treadwell to play dead then moments later yelling for him to fight back.  The report is on http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/2543551/detail.html if you want to read it.  It's happenings like this that I carry a firearm(rifle or handgun) no matter where we go, even to one of the national parks.  Rather be judged by twelve than carried by six(or less).  I don't trust bears, no matter what color they are or what specie they are.  Lawdog

I saw his TV special and knew this guy was a nut case with a death wish. In this TV program they made mention of the last bear nut case with a death wish come true. That guy was an oriental who's name I can't remember. He was also just like Treadwell and was killed by a bear attack while filming.

When will these idiots finally come around and start treating these bears as they should.

If his girlfriend were my daughter, I would go after his estate with every thing I had. In my opinion, Treadwell is totally responsable for her death. He know how risky this stuff was and he should have insisted that she understand the risk or never let her come along.

Yah, but if an animal rights activist is being mualed by a bear do you help the animal rights activist, or just let nature take it's coarse? I know this sounds demented but stupid people seem to get culled out of the population some way or another. This is a good wake up call to these stupid people like him and a good reminder for the not quite so stupid people that aren't sure if he is right or not when they see him on t.v.  I might sound crazy or mean, the only sorrow I can seem to muster is for the bear.

i too saw treadwells documentary on discovery. and on the world news a few years back. i even met a freind of his once. i think everyone knew how this guy's story was gonna end. his friend certainly did. and i knew the second i saw what he was doing what the outcome would be. amazing thing is that it took this long.
and i will not cry for him, as his documentary was blatantly anti hunting. i am betting his last thoughts were different. looks like nature took its course.

One of the investigator's that listened to the recording said that the womans' screams sounded similar to a predator call.  Nothing like ringing the dinner bell when you're gonna be on the menu.

I also will not shead a tear for Treadwell or the loss to Discovery Channel's ability to pick up another so call documentary from this idiot. The special was definatly anti-hunting. They mention that  one of the reasons for the decline in griz populations is hunting. Anyone who knows a bit about game management would know that hunting is a componant of game management. So if hunting was a contributor, they should call it poor game management, not hunting. But becasue Discovery is anti-, they use thier plateform to advance the anti- movement. Of course, Discovery Chanel provided absolutly no basis in fact for thier claim that hunting was a contributor. WHat more could we expect from the LEFT.

This Treadwell moron was of the same ilk as the fraudulant liar that wrote the phony Revolutionary War expose about Americans not having guns. The NRA exposed that jackass and his writing accolades were eventually recanted by the leftist societies that originally awarded them. However, do not expect the anti-gun/hunting media to expose these frauds or report on their eventual discovery. It is too bad that more of these types cannot meet the same end as Mr. Treadwell. Perhaps a group camping effort with some wild bear hugging. I will pay for an airline ticket for some of our esteemed Congressmen.

The one point that the Treadwell followers and imitators fail to realize and the Discovery Channel is unlikely to reveal is, that Mr. Treadwell is responsible for the death of more grizzly bears than most hunters will ever hope to harvest. Mart.
