bought a 30-06 today
« on: April 23, 2009, 12:00:18 PM »
I bought a used 30-06 handirifle today.Based on the serial number, it is a K model..1999..it has ejector, not extractor...seems to work well...it came with a simmons 3-9x50....not my first choce...but it will work....no pitting, needs a little buffing with 0000 wool....dealer asked 299 plus tax, paid $185 plus tax. deliverd...
the forearm is the regular schnabel forearm...stained birch...the monte carlo stock has a unique fiddle back pattern on it, thought it was walnut, but I Inow believe it is birch with a faux fiddleback stain...can you tell me what it is....I'd like to match the forearm..think I did ok on price?

Congrats on the new to you Handi!!  NK or HK = 1996, which means it's not eligible for high pressure * marked accessory barrels even if it has one on it. Not the best buy, but certainly not the worst either, you should be happy with it.  ;) I just traded for a 35 Whelen with a very nice fiddle back butt stock, seriously thinking about refinishing the plain forend to match with faux striping, but haven't investigated that yet.
