Reloading the 454 with Dillon Dies
« on: April 27, 2009, 04:06:04 PM »
Hello.

I'm going to start reloading for my SRH 454.  Have a 550 Dillon reloader, but the Freedom Arms reload site advises to use ONLY 454 dies for reloading the 454, NOT 45LC dies.  Dillon customer service states Dillon 45LC dies are OK for reloading the 454.  Dillon does not list dies for a 454, just the 45LC.

I now know I could have order 454 dies from other companies, but already ordered the Dillon dies prior to reading the Freedom Arms reload data.  I may send the Dillons back depending on the answers I get.

I'd like to hear from those of you who have reloaded the 454 with Dillon 45LC dies and results??  Good, bad, or just plain ugly!

Thanks.

I use the 45LC dies from Dillon on my Square Deal B press.  They work great in my FA83 .454 casull.  The limiting factor would be the tolerances of the dies themselves.  The Freedom Arms cylinders are extremely tight.  I do not have any experience with other guns in this caliber.  All I can say is that I use them and they work.
If I agreed with you then we would both be wrong.

I1ve loaded all of my .454 ammo with Dillon dies and had no problems. They work in my Ruger and in the Taurus I used to have.
