I've never believed Magna-Port does anything good to revolvers, as said earlier on just makes more noise. I've talked to Robbie Latham(way back when at the IPSC nationals) about compensators on his guns and he commented to me that it's the extra weight up front that helps get back onto the target quicker(compensators have the same holes that anyother manufacturer does for his fees)?

Sorry but my experience argues that.  I bought a 10 inch 30-30 barrel with the TC brake and it eas harsh and hurt.  I bought a plain 10 inch 30-30 barrel sent it to Magna-port and it recoiled like a .357 Mag.!  Not all holes are equal.

Thank you, Shootall. If they didn't make noise they would call it archery and I hate archery.

A quote from John Ross maker of the custom 500s:
Recoil is generated by the weight and speed of the bullet, and the weight and speed of the burning powder. Compensators or brakes are ineffective on guns where the powder charge is a small percentage of the bullet weight (most handgun ammo). Brakes work their best in high pressure bottlenecked rifle cartridges like the .300 Weatherby, where the powder charge can be 50% or more of the bullet weight. The ultimate example of this is the recoilless rifle, where enough powder is used (and directed rearward) that the gun doesn't recoil at all.

The 30-30 is a RIFLE caliber and a bottle neck cartridge.  You are so amoured with big name comments.  Go out and try some of the things out there and learn for yourself.  I had a Ruger three inch secuity six with stag grips and a Tyler T.  Great gun but with full house .357 Mag it still hurt.  Taurus brought out their three inch ported.357 Mag.  The Taurus wieghed less but did not hurt with the same ammo.  Revolver not bottle necked.  End of story!!! ???

wonder if the stag grips vs. the rubber grips made a difference ? I know for a fact the thin wood grips on my 12 oz j frame 357 allows me to enjoy more felt recoil than the rubber grips that came on the gun . but nither hurt that much really .

I'm just getting old and crancky, but the pachkmyers were tried on the Ruger too with the Taurus winning hands down.  Have a good day. 8)
