O.R. Sportsman Whare house
« on: April 10, 2009, 11:08:42 AM »
Spent a couple days in Reno NV. just to get away. Went into the Sportsmans whare house to look around. Checked the fishing dept. for 4 items, 3 none in stock and the forth person behind the counter told me that item was never made by the company. Showed him a package from the company with item name on it. He turned red and walked away. Went over to check the brass and powder. I have more brass sitting around waiting to be reloaded than they had all togather. Powder was another joke. Bunch of empty cans sitting on the shelf but most of it not in stock. Dropped by Cabelas on my way out of Reno and they had a little bit better selection of brass and some powder. Prices were high. ie...100 30/06 winchester brass $40.00. Went and got something to eat and made a run for home before Donner summit got closed because of the snow.

The big stores have edged out the small local shops and now they are doing what they want.
Yesterday I was in a Cabelas. I have no Idea what they are thinking with the prices or the way they had their ammo displayed, the ammo was spead through out the gun area grouped by the maker. Literally there was 223 ammo in 6 different areas of the shooting dept

The Canadian Company that now owns Sportsmans Warehouse is shutting down a lot of their stores. Even though they did very good business, All stores in Texas will be closed May 1st. They claim it's the economy, but IMO it's due to bad business management. It all started about a year ago, when they decided not to keep ammo and reloading supplies, along with many other products, up to stock.

I just started ordering everything I needed by mail, and decided not to waste my time stopping there anymore.

I've been told the Canadian company is considering Chapter 11. But that's just what I heard from one of the employees at Sportsmans.

We have two in the Memphis area that are closing, they're having their fire sale now.  Does S.W. & Bass Pro have the same owners?  I noticed my BP receipt also had the SW logo on it.  BP doesn't have any ammo either.

I tend to think it's a case of too big too fast. They started expanding at the wrong time and got caught in the economic downturn. You can see that it has effected Cabela's somewhat also. They are keeping their stock to a minimum.

It's not just sporting goods either. Walmart was looking at coming into our small community last spring and put the brakes on mid summer. Said they would get back to us sometime in 2010. I'm guessing it's NOT gonna happen.
Just another worthless opinion!!

...in Wisconsin, Sportsman's Warehouse was our only hope for un-Gander-like high prices.  They drove Wal-Mart out of the gun selling business, now they are retreating back to the Rockies, shutting down 20-odd stores. Too bad.

Sportsman's Warehouse in Wichita, Kansas will shut down in 1 week--have had a sale for 2 months
Yesterday is history--tomorrow is a mystery--today is a gift!---That is why they call it the present!
