help with mauser info

hi,
 i'm looking for some basic knowledge about this mauser. i just picked this up from a friend for $100. he's going back to the sand box for a two year hack, he's a chopper wrench. so we are keeping this rifle in the family so to speak.  anyhow, it all i know it that its an 8mm and it stamped 1954 in one spot and stamped " germany 1938 cai georgia " near the muzzle.  other number match, the rear sight parts are stamped 02415, the box plate is stamped 29159.
 the bolt is stamped 6613. the reciever is stamped 1954 and has a A over an F with a circle around them.

i did enclose 2 pix, but the rifle is in really good shape, shoots very well and the action is really smooth. the rear sights are marked up to 20. the stocks are not chipped, cracked or scarred up. i'd like to know what i have and a bit about it. so whatever you guys can tell me would be great.

The markings near the muzzle are the import markings.  As to the receiver markings, A over an F, I'm not familiar with it.  I'm sure someone more knowledgable than I can fill in the rest.  The rear sight parts are stamped...?

Turkish m1938?

Well after alot of research online, and a little luck i found what i needed.
 what i have is a 1954 ATF Turkish Mauser M1938 8mm.
 appearently, they have quite an interesting history, only 10,000 were made, i own number 757.
 in short, they started life as a gewehr 98. adapted to turkish service ( reciever mods and rechambered as needed ) as the model 1938.
when this program started in 1954, the first 10K were marked with the factory initials ATF and the year the program started up, 1954.
after that, the subsequent rifle had smaller receivers and weaker bolts. k98's and other mauser models were used as well to keep production up.
the ATF's are reported to be able to handle the hottest 8mm loads
disclaimer: this is what i understand, from what i have read online, and is a over view of facts.

The low serial number on your turk most likely indicates a copy of the 98 Mauser without the modifications the turks made to the barrel and action threading, and those rifles are as strong as any 98 action. 

If the rifle shoots good I would leave it unless you want to sporterize it.

thats correct, from what i undestand so far. my piece has not been cut back at the reciever, nor has the bolt been turned down.
these ATF models are reported to be able to handle the hottest 8mm loads and the these actions are very strong.
 i have not shot it yet, but the guy i got it from shot it, and took a whitetail with it last season. he said it shoots great and is very accurate.
i do plan a sporterizing. i'm looking at a microfit safari stock.
i am documenting and photographing the process from start to finish.
