These were called the XTR DELUXE model.
Some books call them the DELUSE model.
I have 9 of them all with the black forearm tip.
The checkering did vary a little over the years but all were very similar.
They did not have to be a SUPER GRADE to have the black tip.
They were made in a wide range of calibers.
Mine are: 25-06, 243, 30-06, 264mag, 300Win mag, 7mm mag, 338mag, 270, and a custom 225 Heavy Varmint.
I think there were a few other calibers also.
Not sure as to when they quit making them.
I have one made in 1980 and one made in 1981.
Like you I think they were the best looking stocks Winchester ever used on a standard production gun.
