I've always loved knives and I've seen lots of kits and parts to make your own knives.  I have an itch now and need to scratch it so I was wondering if there are any videos on knife making?  Any sources for blanks or materials that are better than others?  What do  you need to watch out for?  Any information would be appreciated.  What machines do you need?  Any good web sites?

Thanks,

Bob

Bob: just a suggestion--go to www.stickbow.com and ask your question.  In your question, ask Highpockets to respond.  You will get several responses in short order!  There are many knife makers that hang out there, and all of them are eager to guide a new comer to their ranks.

Like you, I love knives and collect way too many from makers or bowyers I know personally.  But that's my thing...    ::)

Best of luck, Arch

Go to whatever place sells Blade or Tactical knives; or google on knifemaking videos.  Both magazines and the online markets offer advertisers who sell videos.  Most of the major knifemaking supply houses(Jantz, Sheffield, Texas knifemakers supply etc) also stock them. Based on my own personal experience, I'd recommend starting with fairly simple kits that reflect the style of knife you're most interested in and working my way up until I understand a lot of the mechanics involved; and there are a lot of them.
Once your kit knives look good, then it's time to try making them from scratch.  That's only one direction, there are others depending on what personal skills you may already possess.
