.375-06

Hi Jeff!

I've yet to see or fire a .375-06, but do have some shooting experience with a friend's .375-348 Winchester.  That's a rimmed cartridge of course, built on a High-Wall action.  It thumps pretty good with the 250 and 300 grain bullets!

Isn't here a European cartridge in the 9.3mm size that approximates the .375-06?

Just guessing of course, but I would think the .375-06 is barely more powerful than the more popular .35 Whelen.

I would guess that you'd be better off going to the .375 H&H Magnum, but in your Mauser 98, that would be a single-shot rifle because the magazine is too short for the factory round.

I'd be interested in a .375 wildcat except that the total cost of barrel, reamer, dies, and brass would make it a pretty expensive new toy.  Assuming you can do most or all of the rifle building yourself, I mean.  If it is done by a qualified gunsmith, it would be quite expensive.

You might take a look at the .375 Hawk cartridge. It sounds like to me just what you are looking for.

Just type 375 Hawk into your search engine and it will take you right to the website.

I'm looking to have my Mauser chambered in the 3200 Hawk.

Dave.

How about a .350 Rem Mag necked to .375. Fairly straight forward. Not too complicated.  'Dito

Either 9.3x62 (the German ".375") or 375 Hawk should fill the bill for you.  Keeps it from being a one off custom and much easier to sell if you ever decide to.  9.3 bullets from Speer, Norma and others and getting more common.  The Hawk is based on the 9.3 case (pretty close to an '06 case with the shoulder expanded forward) but neither should require action work on your Mauser like a belted case would.  Heck, new CZ 550's in 9.3 are selling by the truckload.  Have seen some listed for about $460.  May be cheaper to sell the Mauser and buy one of these by the time you barrel, chamber, blue and stock...

Jeff,
The 375-06 has already been done by JDJ of SSK Industries. If you check out their website it gives some stats for the cartridge. Also if you contact JDJ I am sure he will answer any of your questions reguarding that cartridge. He has always answered my questions in a timely, courteous, and very professional manner. I hope this helps.
