ruger 357 9mm convertible blackhawk
« on: May 25, 2009, 11:45:11 PM »
im in the market for a 357 black hawk and would like the versatility of being able to shoot the 9mm ammo also.what im wondering is what kind of accuracy can i expect normally with the 9mm cylinder in place. i realize it depends to some extent on quality of ammo etc. but are the guns normally as accurate with the 9mm cylinder in place as they are with the 357.also are they still making the blackhawk convertible today?as in can i buy a new one if i want?

Ruger NMBH in .357 with 9mm cylinders have a reputation for less than stellar accuracy in 9mm. Mine is very accurate in .357 and nearly as accurate with 9mm CCI Blazer el chepo stuff. I was pleasantly surprised.

All handguns, particularly revolvers, are individuals. Many need a little tuning and ammo experimentation to find their optimum. Mine shoots the 9mm Blazer very well, but even Blazer is not cheap at the moment and I have switched to .22s for most of my fun.

I have two, one in each barrel length, and they both shoot great with 9mm ammo. Both shoot amazingly small groups with .357 loads and like the .357s the best. However, the jacketed 9mm rounds do very well, and shoot better in both of my guns than the lead bullets.

According to their web site both the .357/9mm and .45 Colt/ACP are still available.
