rusting
« on: May 07, 2009, 01:20:52 PM »
I have an older shotgun that wants to pit.  I have been wiping it with a rust preventing cloth that Hoppes makes, every-time I handle it.  This seems to help but  It seems to be getting worse.  I don't want to refinish, what else can I do?

I have several old or antique firearms. I use stp silicone spray on mine after cleaning. Spray it on a cloth and wipe the gun down 3 or 4 times Let it dry in between coats. Leaves a clear film on the gun tha t does an very good job of protecting it from rusting. Been using it on all my guns for 15 plus years. Guess you could say Im a believer

Try waxing it with black kiwi shoe polish, or putting a light coat of Vaseline on it.

For a durable protective coating use ax. Clean and de-rust and coat with a good wax or use a product called 'Rust Prevent' which is a spray wax like material. I use it for long term storage and have had not failures..
