What is going on with .22 ammo availability?

I bought a case of 22 standard velocity last year, and am about half way through it. Time to start thinking about the next case. I noticed that CCI Standard Velocity is generally unavailable on the mail order sites. And noticed that RWS Target Rifle has nearly doubled in price.

What happened?

obummer happened. Folks have gone on a buying frenzy and supplies can't keep up.

I used to go to the gun shop pretty frequently for small purchases, but then I figured out what I really use and buy it in bulk, so I hardly ever go in anymore. But when I do, I buy a lot.

Fortunately I've got a good supply for a while.

Same with practically ALL ammo and loading components these days. Supplies are very iffy for all and prices have in many cases tripled in the last six months. It was that way with guns but I hear from folks the supply may now have caught up on them so hopefully it will on ammo and components again soon. We've been thru this before and it all worked out eventually then and hopefully will again. Mean time if I don't shoot a lot more than I have been doing I have a life time supply on hand anyway so it ain't like it's really affecting me.

Sierra shipped me 2400 .224" bullets, Nosler a lesser number but hopefully with more on the way and Hornady and Barnes are supposed to have some headed my way as well. I wish it was so easy to get primers. Usually I can get the manufacturers to ship the powder to me for use in review articles. I have no such primer connections however.

What I'd like to get my hands on at decent prices are .223 Remington, .357 Magnum and .40 S&W brass. Those are what I expect to use in the largest quantities in the foreseeable future.

Bill, give me a PM.  A few years ago, our department cut back on the purchase of ammo for practice.  A number of officers went in with me and I reloaded several thousand rounds.  I still have a bunch of indoor Police range brass maybe we could parley a deal on.

     Something I started doing not too long ago is buying my brass on gunbroker.  I specifically look up once fired brass in whatever caliber I'm looking for.  If you use the search type in "brass once 223" or whatever other caliber you want and you'll see all kinds of it come up.
     At one time I got 1700 pieces of 223 winchester for a little over a hundred bucks.  If you're ok with once fired brass for much less money, gunbroker is the way to go.  I also recently got 500 30-30 once fired remington pieces for about 50 - 60 dollars.  Did the same thing with 30-06 brass too for about the same amount. 
     I hate to give away my secret fishing hole, so to speak, but I'd like to save people their money too.  It's not perfect, but it's another option that I don't think a lot of people are aware of.
