Which lube for high velocity
« on: May 09, 2009, 03:00:14 PM »
Veral, I guess the subject line said it all. I push a 30 cal bullet to about 2500 which is about the peak for this gun.  Most of the time I don't see any leading, but sometimes if I let the barrel get too warm I might see a trace at the muzzle.  I use Blue and have just ordered your Blue soft and hope I can replace the blue in my RCBS sizer with blue soft.  Even when it's hot in my shop I turn on my lube-sizer heater for about 30 minutes (don't have too) to make the blue flow easier.  After reading your recent post about the soft I just had to order some but your statements in your book led me to think maybe blue had an edge with high velocties in rifles.  Do you think I can replace the blue with soft and not alter my loads?

The three LBT bullets lubes, Commercial, Blue and Blue Soft, are interchangable so far as loads, velocity potential etc.  Some say Blue soft beats the others, but if so it is minor.  Using the same powder charges I believe you'll find pressure, accuracy and cronographed velocities to be equal.  When you switch lubes there is no need to clean the lubricator of blue,  just add a stick of soft and go.  You'll know when it has replaced the blue and is filling the bullets by the easier flow through the lubricator.
