Old Motor

Dug out my old 1940 5 HP Johnson out board today. Have not ran this thing in 15 years.  Cleaned the filth of it,filled a trash can with water.  Put some premix in it,an pulled the cord. 4 pulls later she fired up. After adjusting the carb, she was just purring. I have had this motor for thirty years, and the quality of it never ceases to amaze me. America really built some great stuff at one time.

In the 1960s I owned a johnson 5hp outboard. It would always start when I wanted to go out fishing but never when I wanted to come back home. Don't know when it was made but it was old when I bought it used. I fineally got tired of rowing home and sold the thing.  ;) Sure was happy to see it go.

The new 10hp evenrude I replaced it with was a dandy though.......Loved it.
