questions about n.e.f handi-rifle
« on: May 11, 2009, 02:08:47 PM »
i found one at alocal shop in 30/30 for about $100 . i don't have any use for a 30/30 , we can't use them in ohio for anything but varmints, or wild hogs if you found one.  but i'm thinking i could buy other barrels , rifle or shotgun to put on that action. or can i ?

will any factory handi-rifle barrel fit ?

what about shotgun barrels ?

they have 3 other handi-rifles that were cheap as well.

a carbine in .45 colt

heavy barrel in .223

long barreled .45/70

will other barrels fit them as well ??

Check the FAQ for the date by serial number. If I were you I would buy it and part it out. you will get $100 bucks for that barrel alone.
99% of all Lawyers give the other 1% a bad name. What I find hilarious about this is they are such an arrogant bunch, that they all think they are in the 1%.

i found one at alocal shop in 30/30 for about $100....... i don't have any use for a 30/30 , we can't use them in ohio for anything but varmints,.............

If you handload, that 30-30 is a pretty neat little 'chuck round, especially in the Handi, where you don't have to worry about pointy bullets in a tube magazine.  As much as I would love to talk you out if that barrel, Sierra's .308 110 grain HP is a real 'chuck buster and would make you a nice little varmint rig, though not necessarily a 400 yard rig.  I have shot it in the 30-30, .308 and 30-06 as well as the 7.62x39 (Ruger Mini-30 with a .308 bore) and it's been accurate in all.

In any case, I will have to try to stop in at that "local shop" some day when venturing through the area.  "around $100" seems like a pretty good price to me.

i've used 30/30's for varmints in the past . rem. accelerator loads ,

just realized the 45/70 was one of the wesson/harrington rifles .

i'll have to run back up there and see what the serial number range is on the 30/30 .FAQ says it needs to start with a N or H   and be a SB2 in order to put other rifle barrels on it.

that 45 colt carbine must be some special run deal of some kind.

the .223, .45 colt and .45/70 all were $269 each. might just see what i can walk out of there with all of them for.

thanks for the info.

If you have found a 30-30 Handi for $100, and a 45-70 W/H ( most likely is a Buffalo Classic) for $269 grab it a fast as you can!!!
Those are awesome prices, and even if you don't want those cals many here would trade you for cals you are looking for.
Excellent deals.

Minker what makes you think the 45 colt carbine is a special run. Just wondering? Kurt

About the only thing special about that CR-45LC is the price, I'd jump on it, they're usually about $350 or more, same as the 45-70 BC.

well i bought them .   30/30 serial starts with a N , marked SB2

45 colt carbine i didn't realize was still new and they had the box .

i'd tell you all what i paid for them , but i hate to hear grown men cry !

got them for even less than what they had them priced , even the 30/30 . i was wrong on the price on the buffalo classic , it was priced at $249 .

the buffalo classic 45/70 , they had sold it new , then took it back on trade. whoever bought it originaly had tried or did attach a tang site to the left side of the chamber . it was removed , blueing was buggered up in 2 small areas which they put cold blue on and it blends pretty good . not sure what they attached it with , must have been glue . no sign of metal damage .

phatinjun , aren';t all the classic models a special run ?  and this one has a 16" barrel , only reference i've found on the .45 colt carbines says they have 20" .

Congrats, you got some great buys!  ;)

Barrels are measured end to end, including the chamber.

I got a Hell of a deal on mine $200 @ Gander MNT they said it was used but the guy who had it either never cleaned the factory gunk out of it or never shot it also came with the original box. It's a 20" I've never heard of special run of 16" probly just a good shorten job but you never know does it have a front sight? All the frames start with either a N=NEF or an H=H&R it's the 2nd letter for the yr the new Remington era guns start with a C. What is the web site with the 16"bbl's? Kurt

Man, I wish I had a good candy store around here.  I've got to drive an hour and a half to get to the closest and he's high priced.  I guess that's what you have to pay for being able to shoot 3 or 400 yards out the back door.  I  don't think folks would be too charmed firing a .45-70 in a suburban development :(

Pete it is very rare that the GM here even has a Handi and even rarer that it is a good price.I have only bought the 45 in town here and the other great deal came from a transfer from Northern WI Wausau store on a 7.62x39. I have made a couple of other good deals from Skifastchad up there though. Here in Northern IL its rare though. Kurt

Kurt, I'm meeting up with Chad in Wausau next week to pick up a SB1 frame that matches my .410, factory fitted.  He's a good, honest guy.  There's a new guy that opened about 10 miles west of me that I know has Pardner Shotguns, I'll have to go check him out.  Gotta see if he's got any candy.  Ya just can't have too many Handis.
