6.5 remington Magnum project?
« on: March 01, 2010, 09:54:28 AM »
I am going to have an old remington 700 SA re-barreled to 6.5 remington magnum. I would really like to try some 140 or 160 gr bullets and would like to know if this will work through the short action or should I try and make it on a long action?

Thanks

I think that if you plan to use this rifle for hunting and want it to feed reliably with 140 and 160gn bullets you will need a long action. If you plan to use it as a single shot for target or competition you might squeak by with a short action but I would still recommend a long action with those bullets.
