My expanding knife collection in Iraq
« on: April 26, 2009, 01:33:16 PM »

Two custom knives (the small ones), A reproduction V-42 Stilletto, an Ek Commando Knife, Case Bowie, and a vintage stag handled Bowie knife with an 8" carbon steel blade marked "R. & W. Weber, Solingen-GR."

We had written orders not to bring a Ka-Bar, nor a "Rambo knife", well Ka-Bar is a brand name and the Rambo knives are typified by having a hollow handle for survival items and a large sawback blade. None of my knives fit that pattern, nor were any of them made by Ka-Bar. Still, I am not allowed to wear any of the large knives when behind the wire, but I have permission to wear them when outside the wire. Especially since there are not enough 9mm pistols to go around.  ;)

Anyway, here are some close ups.

Ek Commando Knife, I really recommend this one for any soldier in a combat arms unit!

Custom fighter w/ military surplus scabbard. The knife was purchased for $350 and yes I carry it often, but mostly when behind the wire as it's small. The misurp scabbard is a good idea as I been told that the steel reinforcement is required for a knife scabbard when boarding helicopters. That way the knife will not puncture through in a crash.

My Case Bowie, I just sold this one to another soldier. Again, it makes for a decent sidearm when there are not enough M9 pistols to go around.

Another custom fighter, this is my smallest blade. I always carry it, it rides comfortably there when wearing IBA. this blade is one of my favorites.
(yes, I need to lose that gut)

My current favorite, it's the vintage stag handled Bowie knife. I wear it alot when outside the wire. I am actually wearing two blades in the bottom photograph, but you can't see the small one on my belt. I have actually developed a two handed fighting style. I draw the small one with my left hand in the reverse grip which allows me to block and trap. I grab the big one with my right in a sabre grip, I can then "box" with both hands.

Of course I got other weapons too!

I sold the reproduction V-42 Stilletto to another Joe. This particular weapon gets alot of attention from other soldiers due to it's aggressive style. It's not a "tool", it's purely a weapon.

Interesting collection.  I'm surprised that they wouldn't allow the Ka-bar, I assume they meant the WWII style fighting knife.

I went to war and garrison broke out. Some pogue elements are making all kinds of strange rules, so much so that it is hurting morale for combat arms MOS's.

I carried the Ontario version of the Kabar Marine knife but that was a couple wars ago. I also carried a Tanto style blade.

Great info and pics!  By the way:  THANK YOU for your service to the United States and our citizens!

God bless, Arch

Ps: I love knives, and my collection now fills two rubber maid tubs!  Awful addiction, ain't it?   :D
