Made a last second scope switch
« on: May 25, 2009, 01:50:33 PM »
I changed scopes today on the Stevens 200 w/Shilen barrel that is to be my long range gun. It was a last second decision. I had a Bushnell 3200 10X setting on a 1 piece mount. I was not happy with the mount, I just did not feel right. When I changed to two piece mounts, the Bushy would not fit. So I put on a Simmons White Classic with mil dots. After sighting it in and shooting it a little (even at Dephos, OH), I decided I did not like the thick cross hairs for some longer range shots. So today I put on a Mueller 8.5 X 25 Tactical. Much happier now. I think I am ready to go (sighted in). It was a little windy today, so I may give it a go one more time on a calm day to recheck zero.

Is every body ready to go? - It is getting close.

Yep I'm ready , took the 243 Handi out last night to see if it liked the 65g V-max as well as it did the 58g , well guess what , Its staying home  >:(  >:(  >:( , damn thing shoots like a sawed-off shotgun , best I could get for 3 shots was 2 side by side touching and the 3rd who knows , problem is that sometimes it was at 11o , 3" out , and the next time it was at 6o , 2" out , and then at 3o , dead center .

Its not the scope , it prints just were it always does with the 58g load , dead center and 2" high @ 100 .  ???

Other than that , I'm good to go .  ;D

Between rain showers today I got in a last range session.

I began with the Wayne York custom .25-20 barrel for my NEF and the load I had chosen to give a try seems to work OK. First shot at 25 was bad low but real close left to right hitting a fraction of an inch to the right. I raised the rear sight a couple times and got it hitting at 25 but still need to move it a wee touch left. I'm not sure it will come along and with irons it's sure not a long range proposition but finally today after only about 55 years or so after finding that little .25-20 case in a stream as a young lad I got to fire a rifle chambered to the round as i promised myself I would so long ago.

Next up was the Remington R15 with 22" barrel. It wears a Bushnell Elite 10x40 scope. The load I chose at random for it shoots under MOA and functions fine. I sighted it in at 100 for now. I might take it back to fine tune just a wee bit but basically it's ready to go.

All the ammo and cleaning supplies were packed up today. We're about sitting on ready.

I'm still a bit sick but getting better daily. I had bronchitis the doctor said but the meds he gave me seem to be taking care of it.

We're getting rain off and on every day it seems and that's the prediction thru Friday at least.

I am half ready.  The 22 K-hornet and the 204 are sighted in, as is the Contender pistol in 17 Remington.  The 223 wears a new Mueller scope that still needs to be sighted in and I changed scopes on my 223 pistol, so those are the one's I need to work with.  Plan on getting some range time in on Friday, and hopefully I will be good to go.  All my cleaning supplies and ammo are already in the cases, so all I need to do is load up the guns and head west. 8) 8)

You're supposed to sight them in after changing scopes?
